A USA Today update, and a request reminder on a mellow evening...

Texas Proud Bucky Fan was one of the lucky Bucky Covington fans who was able to enjoy lots of live shows during his Southern sweep in the spring; thanks to her for sharing this great concert shot.

It's a quiet news night, but the live and loud party starts up again tomorrow evening, when Bucky Covington and his band will rock the Neshoba County Fair in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Those of us far away from Mississippi still have the option of enjoying Bucky's new single, "I Want My Life Back" [hear it here] , on the good ol' radio. Brian Mansfield's USA Today Idol Chatter blog lists it as the #15th most-played song on his Idol airplay chart this week; Mediabase has it at #33 with a bullet on their evening update; and we hope you have it as #1 on your personal request countdown!

Please call your local live country DJ and request Bucky's latest, or call the syndicated star gracing your airwaves tonight:

I just noticed the area reminder to vote at CMT & GAC for power pics..Top 20, etc. ...how long has it been since we were fully engaged in voting for a video of Bucky's? Doing that voting benefited not only his song but it really bonded the fan club.It energized us with purpose. I think the slow rise on the charts might be reflected in not seeing that gorgeous guy on screen and not drawing us to him. One thing can be said...Bucky is definitely not overexposed.

  2. Hi, Anonymous!

One of the interesting things about Bucky's transition from Idol contestant to recording artist has been the fact that he benefited from the better parts of "Idol culture"--if you want to call it "culture" :) --without suffering much from the worst of it. He's got fans that are used to being active...we voted all those weeks in 2006, so voting at GAC and CMT was a fun and easy no-brainer.

Between the excellent singles, Trey Fanjoy's creativity, Bucky's videogenic charm and fans who love to get involved in an appropriate way, those videos couldn't miss, and they didn't. I think they gave the songs a much higher profile and generated interest among GAC/CMT watchers who were non-Idol watchers in a big way. My guess is that they generated radio requests among casual TV watchers/fans, too.

All o' that is my longwinded way of saying that while radio is always #1, video--online and especially on TV--packs a higher impact for a singer with Bucky's history and talents, perhaps much more impact than for many recording artists. My guess (only a guess) is that the TV appearances and guest spots are going to ramp up in September with the new album release, but it'd be great to see a video for "I Want My Life Back" sooner than that, of course. Exposure is a beautiful thing! :)
