Bucky Covington's "Gotta Be Somebody": a Billboard update, and request links...

Bucky Covington in the spotlight at his fan club party in Nashville, June 2009; many thanks to the very kind AmaTexMom for this terrific concert photo.

Tonight's the night--Bucky Covington's "Gotta Be Somebody" is looking for a few (well, many) good requesters this evening. With the holidays--and holiday music-heavy playlists--approaching soon, we'll be working against a bit of a headwind...but that's nothing we haven't faced before, yes? Give your favorite live local DJ a call this evening, or contact the syndicated star on the airwaves near you:

Another colorful and creative request banner by Bucky Wild--huge thanks to her for sharing this one!

The Billboard numbers are in--Bucky's new single is #57 on their Hot Country Songs chart for the second straight week, and #38 on the Country Indicator rankings. (The Country Aircheck adds list reveals that two new stations hopped on board this week. If yours is one of them, call 'em to say thanks and request Bucky again...)

Finally, more congratulations to Bucky--the rockin' music video for "Gotta Be Somebody" just made its debut on GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown at #20. You can see it on GAC TV Tuesday at 1:29 and 11:49 AM and again at 7:29 PM, or anytime at GAC.com. CMT's Pure 12-Pack is a must-vote, too--he's been #1 there for several weeks running. (We sure love a winning streak...)

More soon--enjoy your evening!

  2. Hi, Anon--thanks for asking! I will try to get some specifics in a moment for you, but what I do know off the top of my head is that the Hot Country Songs and the Indicator charts use two different ways of measuring airplay...

Wait, found the boilerplate from Billboard--here's some of their explanation:

Hot Country Songs is ranked by total audience impressions for the week ending Sunday based on monitored airplay of 125 stations by Nielsen BDS. Audience totals on the chart are derived, in part, using certain Arbitron Inc. copyrighted Persons 12+ audience estimates (under license © 2009, Arbitron Inc.).
    ...
The Country Indicator chart is tabulated using reported playlists and Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay at 100 stations, ranked by total plays.

Soo...looks like the biggest difference is that Hot Country Songs airplay is monitored/estimated, and Indicator airplay is monitored/reported. Bet there are more differences, though, that would account for a wild difference between the two charts. Hopefully a) that quote didn't put you to sleep and b) there's a real chart buff lurking who can explain it all. Thanks for writing!
