Friday news: New Bucky Covington shows, a GAC countdown, and a hot time in Kansas tonight...

Bucky Covington and Jeff Cease on stage in sunny Des Moines a few weeks back; photo by the very talented Janie. Thanks again!

There are several new shows on Bucky Covington's concert calendar at MySpace; here's hoping one of the following tour stops is close to you!

  • Friday, August 7th: Bucky and his excellent band will play Dave & Bob's in Winchester, VA. (I'll try to find a little more information on this one as the day rolls on...)
  • Saturday, September 19: Bucky and his band play the WDSY/Y108 Thrillbilly Bash in Pittsburgh, PA; the site still has last year's page posted, but the 2009 info should be available soon. They're also Twittering about a listen-to-win contest, and there's a "6 o'clock Six Pack" countdown survey posted on their front page, if you're in the listening area and would like to hear "I Want My Life Back" on your drive home. (Many thanks to a kind anon for the info!)
  • Sunday, October 11: See and hear Bucky and the band at the Deerfield Township Harvest Fest in Rosehayn, NJ. More details on this show as they become available...
  • Saturday, November 14th: Bucky and company are set to rock the WIRK Annual Fall Fest in West Palm Beach, FL; check out WIRK's site for more information as the show date gets closer.

As for this month, July's going out on a high note in Hillsboro, KS, where Bucky and his band headline tonight's Marion County Fair Fire Jam. The music begins at 7:30 pm with Kebo Cyrus opening the show, and the proceeds help to raise funds for a firefighters' training center. (A hot show in more ways than one--have fun!)

Jeff Cease, Ducky Medlock, Bucky Covington and Rocky Covington rocked the crowd at Riverfront Park during their CMA Fest Daytime Stages performance; thanks again to Diver for the photo!

The chart news is--you guessed it--a mixed bag of frustration and joy, as usual. Bucky's new single, "I Want My Life Back" [hear it now at his MySpace] starts the day at #35, with a bullet. Yep, another pole-vault, y'all...but the bullet is there, and it can and will grow this weekend. We can enhance that countdown airtime boost with our requests all weekend long, so be sure to keep your local country station's number with you while you're enjoying some late-summer fun...

Finally, here's a heads-up on GAC's Top 20 My First Time Countdown--Bucky's beautiful Trey Fanjoy-directed video
for "A Different World" isn't on the ballot (all together, now: awwww), but we can vote for him as a write-in candidate. From the countdown page: "There's a good chance we missed one of your favorite first videos worthy of being on the ballot. Let us know about it! E-mail us at: gacnews@gactv.com." It seems like a little thing, but it's a huge help to write in a vote for Bucky, even if "A Different World" doesn't make it onto the countdown.

With a long gap between official music videos, and a new album coming this fall, GAC and CMT very much need to know that there is still lots of interest in, and excitement about, Bucky Covington and his music. The only way they'll know is if we tell 'em--so be sure to fire up that email program and drop GAC a line to remind them that you loved Bucky's first video, and you'll be tuned in for his next one. (Mega thanks to Janie for the news.)

Happy Friday, everyone!--Winnie
