Evening edition: Bucky Covington at the Buffalo Run Casino, June 5th...

Thanks, Sue! Please to view full size. Thanks to Sue for sharing this striking shot of Bucky Covington on stage at a recent show in Portales, NM.

Just a reminder about Bucky Covington's show at the the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK on Friday, June 5th: a few general admission tickets are still available online, but we'd strongly recommend snagging yours now if you're planning to go. The concert is sponsored by KIX 102.5--give them a call to say thanks, and request Bucky's new single, "I Want My Life Back" while you're on the line.

Not in the Kix listening area? Call your local country radio live DJ, or if you're listening to one of our syndicated favorites, dial* in and ask for Bucky:

*A little "A Different World" influence, there. Nope, there wasn't a line about rotary phones in Bucky's debut hit, but it would have fit right in, yes? Have a beautiful evening!--Winnie

Yes, a line about rotary phones in Bucky's debut hit would have fit right in!! You are too funny..Thanks for the handy call- in numbers. One problem: I call and call and call and never get an answer or either the call goes dead. I know this is the best way to help Bucky, but it is very discouraging. Any hints on how to deal with this rudeness because an email does go through but often frowned upon as a legitable way to request.

  2. Hi, Anon:

You're so right about the frustration of waiting forever for that line to be picked up--and I have literally growled at the phone when it went dead after the waiting!

If the syndicated show or local DJ that you're listening to is impossible (or virtually impossible) to reach via phone, I'd say that the second best way to try to make your request would be the whatever the flavor-of-the-month social networking toy is, as mentioned on their show. (Listen closely--if they advertise their Facebook, Twitter or AIM on the air, it's worth looking into.)

We have a really nice local country DJ here who is an avid Twitterer; I noticed back in the "Different World" days that it was easier (and more fun) to make contact with After Midnite via AIM...

My theory (just a theory) is that a) the shows and hosts like sounding hip ("got a request in via Facebook for this one...") and b) the interns/assistants are probably very young and very text/IM/Twitter-inclined.

Again, still theory, and I will try to back that up with some research and post about it--but my gut feeling is that while phones are still the #1 way to do it, social networking platforms are overtaking email as #2. (Email is fine if that's your only option...any way is better than none!)

Thanks for the excellent question! :)

  3. PS: Thanks for the compliment! Rotary phones still rock, but they're a little clumsy for requesting... ;)

My cheap phone doesn't twitter but I do email and call. Sometimes it takes 8-10 tries before getting into the syndicates and sometimes I get frustrated and give up on one - go stream another and then try that one. I have been able to get through to at least one per night and they have said they will "try". But if enough do it, we will get it played on these. Cody played it Tuesday night ...just keep on dialing.

  6. Thanks, Anon and anon! The radio folks still speak of "good phones" when talking about a potential hit, and calls will always make the biggest impact. Persistence and patience do pay off! Social networking (Twitter/Facebook/etc.) seems to be giving email a solid run for its money as the #2 way of requesting, and they're definitely worth looking into.

And since we have some wonderful new readers and Bucky fans hitting the site (welcome!), here's an important reminder the veteran requesters always keep in mind: only request at shows/stations you can and do listen to. This is mega-super-major important! Radio stations hate spam, and more requests by individual listeners are the key--so ask your friends (including your MySpace, Twitter and Facebook friends) to join you in listening to the radio and getting on the request lines. Bucky's had three big hits, and those hits were based on both dedicated fans and casual radio listeners calling in and falling in love with the songs. So don't feel bad if you can't be everywhere at once or if you don't get through every time--recruit a friend (or two, or more.) More real listeners, more requests, bigger hits--and you'll be supporting Bucky and radio.

End of lecture and thanks for listening! :)
