Buckymania, 2006-2008: Mission accomplished!

"Chase your dreams. They don't come to you."--Bucky Covington

Bucky Covington in Atlanta; photo by Mike Clifton of Local Sports Online. Click here to see more of his beautiful photography, or call 770-460-7910 for more information. Thank you, Mr. Clifton!

It's ironic--sometimes chasing your dreams until they catch you brings about changes you never could have anticipated. Back in March of 2006, you and I met here at Buckymania. Together, we watched a talented young country singer named Bucky Covington chase his dream on American Idol--and those exciting musical Tuesdays and suspenseful Wednesdays brought us all closer, as we voted and cheered and dreamed of his first CD and his Nashville career right along with him...

Now that's what I call a smile! Photo by DeniseBernadette--click image to view her beautiful tour gallery.Photo by DeniseBernadette--click image to view her gallery.)

You and I have been here sharing the fun through Bucky's Idol journey, through the excitement of the American Idols Live! tour, through the long and uncertain post-Idol tour stretch, through the news of his studio time and the sweet surprise of the GAC Christmas tour, through his first hit single, his #1 album, his first major awards nomination, and through many, many hot and happening concerts all over the country. The tale of Bucky Covington and his delighted supporters is a textbook example of the power and magic inherent in chasing a dream, holding on tight, and never giving up.

What's ironic is that helping Bucky chase his career dream ultimately led to me catching one of my own. I've been offered a professional opportunity that I'd be crazy not to jump on, and I've accepted. The downside is that there's no way I'll be able to honor my commitment to a new, labor-intensive project and still do a quality job with Buckymania. The upside is that our mission here is quite beautifully accomplished.

Bucky's online presence is in amazing paid-professional hands with O-Seven, Lyric Street and MCN's BuckyCovington.com--his blossoming, busy, undeniably successful career really outgrew one lone indie blogger's capacities about a year ago, to be honest! Even though one fan site is closing, Bucky's very strong support system, official and fan-based, will go on and grow even stronger as he heads on down the highway toward that thirty-year career he's made it clear he's after. (And there's no doubt in my mind he'll get it.)

I am still and forever a devoted Bucky Covington fan--I'll be on the phones requesting and voting, and at the shows cheering and dancing, too. You can count on that.

This wouldn't be a proper goodbye post without some big thanks.

Thanks to all the regular readers for your friendship, emails and sweetness, and to everyone who has graciously sent photos, videos, news, information and kind thoughts these past two years--I typed, but YOU made Buckymania the beautiful and informative blog that it was. Bucky Covington is truly blessed with the greatest fans in the world!

Thanks to Hildi for giving me an encouraging word that changed my whole life.

Thanks to Blogger.com for making Buckymania a Blog of Note last year and getting the ball rolling.

Thanks to AmaTexMom for an extraordinary kindness that helped to keep the blog alive.

Thanks to all the lovely lurkers, media reps and record company folk who have stopped in and kept tabs. (I'm flattered!)

Thanks to Ducky, Caitlin, Shaun, Hans, Steve, Jefferson, Scott, Tom, Rocky and Jeff for rockin' the house night after night; to the crew, friends and family who help make it happen out there on the road; to Mark Miller, the Harris Brothers, Lyric Street and MCN for being incredible, and to the Covington Family for being so wonderfully gracious.

Thanks to the brilliant songwriters who gave Bucky some fine, fine music to sing.

Thanks to everyone I'm no doubt forgetting at at this late (and kind of emotional) hour.

Yep, that's me--tired from traveling all night and winter-pale, but I wouldn't have missed Bucky Covington's Opry debut for the world. Photo taken March 2007 at Opryland. And thanks so much to Bucky Covington for some of the best, sweetest and most fun musical moments I've ever had, hands down. It's been a joy!

Buckymania's closing, but the archives will remain online for as long as Blogger allows, and along with the great fan sites in the sidebar, there's a hot new fan blog just setting up shop--please visit the very kind Fran and enjoy the debut of Buckytown USA.

For the last video, I'll go "back to the future" a bit and post my very favorite Bucky Covington Idol performance from 2006. He's come a long, long way since this one, but the honesty and pure heart in his voice that night remains to this day--and it'll be there twenty years from now, too.

I'll see y'all on the road!--Winnie

Oh Winnie!! I can't believe you are gone!! To say that I will miss Buckymania is an understatment. Someone affiliated with Bucky's career should grab you up girl. It is not too late for you to change your mind!! You have been so dedicated and supportive of Bucky and us fans that I just don't want to see it end. I am happy for you and your career, but sad for all of us. I wish you the best, because that is what you are.

Thank you for everything. You have done so much for Bucky's career and for my Bucky obsession. I shall miss your eloquence, your knowledge and your sage advice. As happy as I am for your professional advancement, I am selfishly so sad at losing you. You were the first place I found when I did a search for Bucky two years or so ago and the first place I visit each day . I feel honored to have met you at his Opry debut...a thrilling time for us all.
Best of luck in this new path. You so deserve it.

Oh my gosh Winnie I am so excited for you! Even though I could not get over here everyday, I had fun catching up. Your devotion to this blog and the latest new on Bucky has been unparalleled. I am so happy I got to meet you and experience my first country music jam with you, and some of my other fellow Buckaneers, it was truly a pleasure. Please stay in touch and let me know how I can contact you, we still need to go to lunch. I want to also thank you for all of your kind words and frequent use of my shots on this blog. Your consistent encouragement has prompted me to look into furthering myself in that hobby & with the help of another fellow Buckaneer, I may launch that by years end. I had some great subjects to learn on in the form of Bucky and Rocky & crew. Love you girl. I hope our paths cross again very soon.

Fran, Tracey, Kathy, Team Wisconsin, Dixiegirl, Lisa, Rachel, Buckems, Pizzi, Kellie, Sassey, Buckyflowers, Trish, Karen, Minnie and everyone, thank YOU for making these two years here so magnificent and so much fun! I can't begin to tell you how happy I am our mutual excellent taste in rising country singers brought us together as friends and fans of Bucky's. What a blessing it's been to get to know you here and to meet some of y'all in real life!

And you know, somewhere along the road I hope to be able to say hi to the friends I haven't yet met, as we cheer for Bucky and company at a show...

(Judge, you are a sweetheart--I am really flattered! The full weight of my Compulsive Writing Syndrome is promised to the new project, but Bucky's ongoing success and inevitable future triumphs will no doubt generate a lot of talk all over! You're very kind and I can't even begin to say how much I am going to miss being here...)

Honestly, the phrase "thank you" is totally inadequate for what I'm feeling tonight--but thank you so much!

Dear Winnie ~ I am so happy for you with your new job opportunity but I am still very sad. Buckymania was "it", if you wanted to know something "Bucky", you came here! You just have a way with words and the ability to make everything better! Whether it was reminding us to request or bringing us to our senses (when we were responding to negative critics comments) you just knew the right words to say. Reading your blog was truly a pleasure and thank you so much for everything. "No stone was left unturned" in your quest to post news, pictures, and videos. I will miss you very much, thank you for all of your kind comments while I was going through my "leg issues" and I'm doing much better now! Take care Winnie and I'll see you on the road!

  27. Kerri, Debbie, Bunny, Sherry, Cathy Anne, Martha and Moon, thank you for yet another lump in my throat and tear in my eye. :) You are lovely and I am so honored to have come to know you. I say it so much because it's true--Bucky's brought some amazingly wonderful people together!

It has been such a pleasure, and one of the most fun things about it was finding a snippet of news or a concert date and thinking "wait until Kerri sees how close this show is" or "I wonder what Debbie's going to think about that?" as I fired up Blogger to post. I am going to miss it so much...

Thank you for everything and more!

(And of course, I couldn't resist sharing...drum roll...one last bit of news! Habits die hard, y'all. :)

What can I say? I'm happy for you and I'm sad for us.

Wow. It's been a wild wild ride, and I'm proud of you for chasing your dreams. You have such a tremendous talent and I know that writing is something that you LOVE to do. I'll never forget when we were in Nashville and I ran into your hotel room to tell you that Bucky had all these marvelous REAL tour dates posted and I could SEE the wheels spinning in your eyes as your eyes shot to the door. You could't WAIT to get to the computer to let everyone hear the good news.

It's precisely that infectious enthusiasm and positive attitude that has kept us all coming back to Buckymania for not just news - but a very cool, welcoming, caring place to hang out. You are such a special woman.

I'm so glad to call you friend, Winnie. It truly is good to be us.

    Love you!

  29. Winnie, I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! Like Diver, this was the first place I found two years ago in a search for Bucky news, and because of Buckymania, I was able to find out about Bucky's appearance on Larry King, and it was there I heard about his Opry debut, promptly bought tickets, and the chance to meet all the WONDERFUL Buckaneers that led me first to the AI boards, and then a few weeks later, BCO. So, thank you Winnie, for EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Thank you so much for all of your amazing work to promote and support Bucky on his journey since AI. Gosh, your blog will be sorely missed. I am proud to call you a fellow Bucky fan and thereby a friend.

You are a lovely lady, and I am so glad we got to meet face to face.

Kimberly, thanks and believe me, it was a pleasure! It's good to know that that news led you to the Opry (what a wonderful night we all had in Nashville!) and to BCO. Bucky's career--and the fun--is just getting started...I really hope we'll run into each other again soon.

And Dell, it was such a treat to meet you and your kind husband in Nashville! I only wish we'd had a chance to talk more--I really enjoyed chatting with you. Wishing you peace, success and much joy, too.

Winnie!!!! I'm so happy for you yet sad that this chapter is ending. I've become quite the Buckymania addict - I honestly think this is a better resource than the official site and you know how us Harem girls are allergic to official "shites" and all. ;)

Anyhoo, thanks so much for all that you've done over the past couple of years. I can't begin to imagine how much hard work went into keeping this blog up but you did a stellar job and made it so easy for the rest of us. I think most of all I'll miss your sunny disposition and can-do attitude on here - it's infectious and you manage to pull it off without seeming too fangirly or corny.

Out of all of Bucky's fans, you definitely are the first one that comes to mind when I think superfan and I don't mean that in a derogatory way whatsoever. Hopefully Bucky's got a gold star and a cookie waiting for you somewhere in the near future, because lady, you deserve it! Best of luck (and keep in touch - same email addy, same bat channel)
