Tuesday news: Country in the Park, fairground fun, photos from Vegas and more...

Bucky Covington strums up a storm on stage at the State Theatre in State College, Pennsylvania; photo courtesy of the very kind Sweettealove. (Thanks again, Sweettealove!) Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy, iTunes , WalMart Music and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Bucky Covington and the band are enjoying a few days off before the busy tour schedule resumes tomorrow with a performance at the Indiana State Fair's Free Stage, sponsored by WFMS--but that's just the beginning of a truly unusual (and fun) lineup of concerts coming up! After the fair in Indiana, Bucky, Rocky, Don, Hans and Shaun face their wildest audience yet--literally. From the Milwaukee Zoo site:

Get ready to feast on a meal with the monkeys, a snack with the sharks and a dessert with the Dall sheep at the 2007 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a la Carte at the Milwaukee County Zoo. The event kicks off August 16 and runs through August 19 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. More than 27 restaurants, including three new offerings, covering a range of cuisines will be on hand, along with four nationally recognized musical acts.

Between the awesome music, the tasty-looking dining options (check out that long list of participating restaurants) and the wild and wonderful atmosphere, it's safe to bet that this will be an affair to remember. Bucky's concert happens on Friday, August 17 at 8 p.m.; admission is $10.50 for adults, $7.50 for children 3-12, $9.50 for seniors and free for kids under 2. Get ready for a roaring good time...

And of course, if if you like your wild times in the rowdy atmosphere of a 21-and-over nightclub, Bucky's got you covered there, too. He'll be playing the Cancun Cantina at 7501 Old Telegraph Road in Hanover, Maryland (Google map here) on Friday, August 24; from all accounts, Bucky's Bottle & Cork show this past weekend turned a lot of casual clubgoers into newly minted fans, so you know they'll rock the house. If you can see this amazing band in an up-close nightclub setting, go! WPOC has information about the show on their concert calendar; or call the Cantina at 410-761-6188.

There's a bit more info about Bucky's upcoming "Country in the Park" show in Sacramento, too--this morning's Sacramento Bee features a short blurb about the lineup, which includes Bucky, Sawyer Brown, his friend Kellie Pickler, Idol season two finalist (and new Lofton Creek Records artist) Carmen Rasmusen, and headliner Gary Allan. KNCI is sponsoring the show, which takes place Sunday, September 9th at the beautiful Gibson Ranch Park in Elverta; tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com.

Looking for Bucky's "A Different World" on the charts? It's currently holding the #6 spot on both the Mediabase weighted and Top 500 listings, with no bullets this morning--but as a close look at the charts shows, there's a distinct opportunity for an upward bounce back into the Top Five before the week is out. Keep requesting "A Different World" at your favorite local and streaming country stations, keep the support going at GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown and CMT's Top Twenty Countdown, and remember those wonderful syndicated country radio shows tonight, as well...

Finally, here's a photo link we somehow missed along the way--Bucky's Las Vegas trip was an adventure to remember, and this excellent gallery of concert shots from Bucky's KYCE poolside Fourth of July show captures the musical side of that eventful stop beautifully. Enjoy!

More very soon--have a great Tuesday!

Edited to add a note from comments: "According to AllAccess, Bucky's second single 'Good to Be Us' will hit radio on Sept 10." Remember, the best way to help single #2 between now and then is to keep supporting single #1. There's a whole tricky, sticky new set of radio politics when it comes to helping a follow-up single, and I'll do a fact-finding post on that very soon. But when it comes to our relationship with radio, the smarter we play it, the more we'll help Bucky out--and it is always appropriate everywhere, to request Bucky's current hit single at the moment. All in due time, y'all--September's just around the corner! Thanks to a kind anonymous commenter for the news--Winnie

I loved the 4th of July Las Vegas pix! I always wondered how that went, no one ever posted about it. The slide show is beautiful!

And hi, Moon! I love those Las Vegas shots, too--beautiful photos, and it sure looks like he had a blast out there at the pool party. :) Good morning to you!

Ahhh...comments. Since my media lurkers rarely come in here, I can say what I couldn't quite say out front. :)

(Please forgive the following--I am guessing most everyone who comes here already knows this stuff, but for the benefit of those who are new to the whole requesting thing, here's some info from an insider...)

My radio contact friend tells me that far-in-advance requests for an upcoming single are not necessarily helpful--since only the diehard fans and street teamers read the trade papers, industry site etc. and know things like "spins" and "add dates", someone calling for an artist's new single a month before it's released can be flagged by some PDs as an annoying overinvested fan. If too many people call in advance, it's an even bigger red flag. Remember, radio is more interested in pleasing their advertisers and their regular local listeners (who patronize the advertisers) than in pleasing any one fan group...

However, there may be a few Bucky-friendly stations that jump the gun and play the song early--if you turn on the radio and "It's Good to Be Us" is flowing from your speakers, it's perfectly cool to call up and tell them you loved hearing it on the radio and that you hope they'll be playing it more often. And it's safe to assume we'll be back doing the songfights and challenges and such, as well--September will be busy!

But for now, even though we Bucky Covington fans are very familiar with "A Different World", there are still some places where it's only been on the playlist a few weeks--and in those areas, they're still in the process of falling in love with the song, with Bucky, or both. Why should we deny them that fun? ;)

Anyway, I'll try to find out more about "follow-up single etiquette" and share the news in a new post soon.

Thanks for listening to me ramble, y'all! I love hearing Bucky Covington on the radio, and any information I can find that we can use to help him stay on the radio for decades to come is worth digging for. Feel free to add, subtract, comment, tell me I need an editor, whatever...we're all in the same "loving Bucky on the radio" boat, I know, and every bit of knowledge helps. Thanks!

Thank you for this bit of info, Winnie, it is a good explanation, and you do it so well, do NOT get an editor, who could improve on this? You could be one yourself! Anyway, I appreciate the details on this! ~moon

  6. Moon, you are a sweetheart, and thank you! I'm glad the info was helpful--hope I can find out more.

(I have a way of taking five paragraphs to say what most people could get across in two--you're very kind, but I really do need to learn the fine art of condensing! :)
