Sunday news: Festival surprises, good advice and more...

Click the image to visit Buckaholic's photoset--thanks, Buckaholic! Bucky Covington reaches out to the crowd during his show at the Indiana State Fair, 8/15; photo by the very kind Buckaholic, who shares more of her fantastic concert shots in her Flickr photoset. Thanks again, Buckaholic! Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. A copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered through his official site or via his official fan club.

If you're an Idol-hopeful who'd like to turn your dreams into reality, you can't beat tips from someone who has been there and done it with style. Bucky Covington's good advice is worth heeding, and in this Miami Herald article on Idol auditions, he shares some insights into how to prepare for the chance of a lifetime:

Win producers over and you could wind up like Bucky Covington, 29, and Pickler, 21, who both have albums that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

Covington, riding the Top 10 with his single A Different World this week, suggests that South Florida aspirants record themselves singing beforehand and fix flaws before Simon does that for them before 30 million TV viewers.

''When you're singing, you don't hear yourself, so record yourself,'' Covington says. "And practice in front of a mirror to see what you look like when singing. That helped me out a lot.''

And don't forget to ''get plenty of sleep'' Tuesday night, Covington adds. Groggy bodies don't make for pliable voices. Besides, once you're on Idol, sleep will become a precious commodity. ''If you make the show, you'll remember I said that,'' he says, laughing.

Howard Cohen's article is fascinating, even if you aren't an audition candidate--enjoy!

Bucky and the band are also generous when it comes to giving back to their (non-singing) loyal fans--last night's conference call from the Mountain Days festival in Dayton featured a sweet surprise at the end, when Bucky and Rocky popped in to say hello to all the listeners on the line. Congratulations to everyone who got a chance to chat last night! For those who'd like a chance to enjoy some communication of the live and musical kind, Bucky, Rocky, Don, Shaun and Hans have got you covered there, too--here's a quick look at the next stop on Bucky Covington's concert tour:

(The Concert Roundup for September is coming up soon--stay tuned!)

On the charts this morning, Bucky's long-running and beloved hit "A Different World" is still hanging tough at #5 on the Mediabase weighted listings, and keeps its #6 spot on the Top 500. We're still lookin' for that all-important Billboard #5--keep requesting "A Different World" at your favorite local and streaming country stations, and we just might get it, y'all. And show Bucky's video some affection at GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown and CMT's Top Twenty Countdown, too! As we've discussed before, full-throttle support for the first single and video pave a smoother, sweeter path for the second...

We'll be on the lookout for photos and recaps from yesterday's Mountain Days show--from first reports, this was a wonderful concert all around.

Edited to add a note from the New Music Playoffs site, where Bucky's winning ways continue this week: "A DIFFERENT WORLD" from Bucky Covington takes on Robert Anton's "Insane" on this week's New Music Playoffs CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHUP. Check out this match-up and others and CAST YOUR VOTES today at www.musicplayoffs.com. Listen to the show live Sunday Mornings - it's all free. Thanks, The Duke of New Music." Happy voting, everyone...
