Friday news: photos from Michigan, line dance happenings and more...

By request, Bucky Covington on stage at the State Theatre in State College, Pennsylvania; photo courtesy of the very kind Sweettealove. (Thanks, Sweettealove!) Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy, iTunes , WalMart Music and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Let's start off the day with a blast from the very recent past--be sure to check out WYCD.com's photo gallery, featuring fun backstage shots from Bucky's show with Tracy Lawrence at the Michigan State Fair. (As you recall, Tracy was almost the singer who brought us "A Different World", as Bucky affectionately recalled in his USA Today diaries a while back--the gentlemen ended up sharing the charts this spring and summer, with both "A Different World" and "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" becoming huge hits.)

And while Bucky's debut smash has already made its impressive mark, his second hit, the rousing "It's Good to Be Us", is getting plenty of airtime ahead of its official release to radio next month. On the Mediabase weighted rankings, it's currently #97 with a bullet, and it's "bubbling under the hot 100" at #102 on the Top 500 chart. Pretty good for a song that technically hasn't been released yet!

Of course, some of that airtime has been the result of the local songfights, challenges and pick-or-flicks that are the hoops of fire for up-and-coming radio hits. The best thing we can do for Bucky's next hit right now is be local listeners. Simple and fun, yet so important! Chances are good that you're already a loyal listener to your area FM country station--if not, turn on that radio and get ready to let them know what you think of "It's Good to Be Us" when the next round of songfights come up.

Missed the songfight--or simply had the joy of a serendipitous serenade by Bucky when you hit the dial? Call up the station (calls have more impact than emails) and let them know you enjoyed the new song. (Let's face it, there are few things that feel better than showing and/or receiving some appreciation--and no matter how large or small your local country station may be, positive feedback from listeners is always welcome. Don't be shy about letting them know when they're pleasing you!)

(Edited to add a link to the Bucky Covington Fans MySpace blog...looks like a lot of stations have given Bucky's new song a little advance affection. Go over and take a look--your local crew might be among them...)

If you'd like to be musically pleased live and in person this evening, Bucky, Rocky, Don, Shaun and Hans have you covered there, too. Here are the details about tonight's much-anticipated Cancun Cantina show:

We're looking forward to lots of photos and recaps from that show over the course of the weekend--come on back for more!

Finally, a little news on the line-dance front--we can now add "It's Good to be Us" to the quartet of songs from the Bucky Covington CD that have been honored with line dances of their very own. (The other three are "A Different World" choreographed by Teri Rogers, "Diesel Fuel and Holy Water"--for "I'm Good", naturally--by Dave Munro, and the popular "Bible and Belt" by Kathy Heller, which has been spotted on dance floors from Florida to Germany!) Lynne Martino mentioned her new dance in this issue of World Line Dance Newsletter back in July. So far, there isn't a step sheet for "It's Good to Be Us" online, but we'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, shine up those scootin' boots--it's going to be a fabulous fall...

More very soon!

  2. Hi Anon and thanks--I like that one too--Sweettealove deserves a round of applause! There were several requests for that one, so I am guessing it's a huge favorite...

I am likely going to the WGAR Jam on the 8th of September, since it's right in my hometown...looking forward to finally hearing the full band! :) Hope you were able to get out to some shows this summer--if not, check the link in the Saturday post. New ones have been added. Gonna be a rockin' fall! :)
