Wednesday news: Power Picks news, sweet home Carolina and more...(updated)

Photo: Teresa Montgomery/CMA Bucky Covington performs at the Complete Country Show at the Greased Lightning® Daytime Stages at Riverfront Park on Thursday, June 7 in Downtown Nashville during the 2007 CMA Music Festival. Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club. (Provided by Country Music Association. Photo: Teresa Montgomery/ CMA.)

Edited to add a link to the New! Discover Music page at Clear Channel, where Bucky's featured as a big-picture "listen on demand" choice. (The link goes to WGAR, but the Discover Music pages are available on just about any CC-owned station's site.) "Discover" Bucky there, and enjoy!

CMT's Power Picks head-to-head video matchups are a bit of a mystery so far this week--the link to the list of matchups has been plagued with tech troubles the past few days, so it's been hard to have advance notice of our opportunity to vote. The best bet? Tune in and log on at the CMT Power Picks voting page at 12 noon ET and keep an eye out for Bucky's smiling face. Chances are very good that he'll be facing a video challenge today or tomorrow, so be ready to mouse click "A Different World" to a welcome win...

Over at Mediabase, Bucky's single is experiencing some deja vu this morning--it's still #13 on the weighted chart and #14 (with a bullet) on the Top 500 . No, that bullet didn't make it back just yet on the weighted chart, but a close look at the listings reveals a seriously golden opportunity. With three mega-hits maturing and making their way down the charts, and two relatively newer songs also bullet-free this morning, there's never been a better time for us to regain that bullet and pounce. Seven (yes, seven) requests could make the difference. We are so close to Top Ten, and the coast is about as clear as can be. Y'all know the refrain by now! Request Bucky at your favorite local and streaming country stations, remember those local "Top X at X" and nationally syndicated country radio shows, and savor the sweet clear air of Top Ten territory.

And hey, why not give Bucky and his video some love on CMT's Top 20 Countdown, (vote once per week) GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown (once daily) and CMT's Pure 12-Pack ballots while you're here?

WQDR in Raleigh is sponsoring Bucky's event tonight--the station doesn't stream, but it does have an audio vault and a photo gallery. (We'll check back for any new additions to either or both; right now, there's a small shot of Bucky with some of the station's crew in their CMA Fest photo wall.) Bucky, Rocky, Shaun, Don and Hans take the stage at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh for two shows; see the venue's site for more info. Friday, they'll rock Wild Bill's in Duluth, Georgia; tickets for this show are available now at Ticketmaster. Atlanta area fans, you're in for a treat! Bucky's summer concert schedule is packed and hotter than ever--check out the official tour page to see when he'll be heading your way.

Finally, a few repeat photo links that might have gotten lost in the shuffle the past few very busy days--BuckWild08's beautiful shots and video from Bucky's Daytime Stages show at CMA Fest are a must see. (Log into MySpace to view her photo gallery.) Happydays captured some sunlit images of CMA Fest in her just-posted Photobucket album that you're sure to love. Citronella had the pleasure of seeing Bucky's Philadelphia show last Saturday, and she shares her great Flickr photoset here. And there's always new and fun stuff happening at the Bucky Truck Stop at Rawkhands--if you haven't been there lately, stop in and enjoy!

We'll close with one last just-for-fun voting link to wrap things up: click here to vote for "A Different World" as the About.com Country Poll Battle song of the week.

More very soon!

I wonder if Lyric has stopped pushing the song and are gearing up for the second single, hence the bullet drop? It's still a small enough drop where it's reversible though.

Then again, a lot of songs are dropping that are surprising me. Newer songs at that.

  2. Excellent question, Anon--and I'm very happy that this is one I have a definite answer to. Lyric Street just bought a big color "Gearing up for Top Ten Airplay" ad that they ran in radio trade publications yesterday--an indication that they are very much interested in seeing "A Different World" hit the heights. The ad is posted at Team Covington and the Bucky Truck Stop at Rawkhands, but I will bring it over here for all to see, too. We've got a lot more great singles coming from Bucky from this CD, but his debut song is still leggy after all these months...

I agree with you--the charts are very surprising today! Definitely an interesting summer ahead.

Sorry but the NC show info is not correct. The high school show is tonight and the all ages show is tomorrow night. Word has it that a lot of Bucky's family will be there tomorrow night. Check the lincoln theater website for info.

I can't believe Ticks is dropping. That's the one that really surprised me. And Keith Urban's brand new one. At least we haven't had to put up with any bullet fluctuations like that. We've actually had it pretty good so far. If this is it, it was a good run but hopefully the ol' boy still has a little reserve left to go just a bit farther.

Forgot to add that I hope the next single is AFN. I like Bible better but AFN is the perfect song to peak right around fall. What would be even better is if Friday Night Lights considered it for a theme song, even on a temporary basis. Sounds like it was tailor made for that show. I'm not holding my breath though, considering that it's Fox.

I agree that AFN should be the next single. What better song to peak right during high school football season later this fall?

I hope it's true that Lyric Street is going to continue pushing ADW into the top 10. It would be painful to watch him get so close and not quite make it.

  7. Anon, thanks for the info on the Lincoln Theater shows--I think I'll just refer people to the venue's page so they'll know what's really happening from the source. :) I should never post before coffee. Thank you!

And thanks for the observations on the next single, too--it'll be interesting to know how it all adds up! I would love for Bucky to get Top Ten with "A Different World"--but I am so incredibly proud of how out favorite new country singer is doing right now, too! He's got bragging rights no matter how things go.
