First, if you haven't had a chance to read Kathy's beautiful look-back post at Team Covington tonight, head over there now--ah, the memories. (Anyone else still having a tough time processing the fact that the summer, and the season, are really over? Sigh...)
There's a bit of a nostalgic mood at the official boards, too, along with some sweet last-show photos shared by a generous Taylor Hicks fan. (And speaking of Taylor, congratulations on the gold single! There are so many celebration threads in his folder at the Fox boards that we'll just link to the folder itself...enjoy the party!)
There's an interesting observation tonight in MJ's comments area this evening--one that really bears some looking into. MJ herself posted these words of wisdom, after a comment from an Elliott fan about how odd it felt to not know "his whereabouts every day anymore": Regular information KEEPS FAN BASES HAPPY. Oh, yes it does. (Those are MJ's caps, not mine, but I think they're appropriate. Fanbases can, indeed, get a little info-starved and skittish between the end of the tour and the first CD with its attendant publicity push.)
So...how does this apply to Bucky's corner of the Idolsphere? We're blessed in this respect--Bucky's family have been very gracious about keeping in touch on the Fox boards and elsewhere. It's safe to assume that no matter what shape the overhauled/streamlined Season 5 boards take as the new season begins, there will be tribute/support threads for both Bucky's kind "Special Mother" Tracey and his lovely wife Crystal. (Definitely reliable sources!)
As for industry links--besides Google and Yahoo news (available on the sidebar), it's also wise to keep up with CMT News (and Hazel Smith's column, especially), Billboard, Variety, and MTV. (And of course, your current favorite bookmarked sites like Team Covington, Bucky Country, Covington's Crew, the Richmond County Daily Journal and MJ's Big Blog will spread any good Bucky-related news fast.)
When it comes to getting the news out really quickly, though, there's nothing like an official site. The much-missed, family-run Bucky Covington Online was a wonderful resource during Bucky's time on Idol; will his new label (whoever they might be...hope we know soon!) get a new official website up and running shortly? We sure hope so. The iron is hot right now. Bucky's coming off this tour with a fresh batch of brand-new fans who got a taste of what he can do live and liked what they saw. A professional, label or management-run site with song clips (yes!) , a gallery, an official message board (one that definitely won't vanish when a new season of Idol begins), street-team materials and a news area would do a lot to keep longtime and new fans engaged and motivated during the upcoming lull. (Heck, even a short but sweet official "coming soon" page with regular news and updates would be a big blessing.)
So, yes. Information is our fondest desire at the moment--the tour may be over, the big label announcement may not have happened yet, but we'd still love some news on Bucky's career from time to time. Here's hoping our connected lurkers (and y'all know who you are) are listening...
Photo and media links, and a kinda-sorta contest next post...come on back!
Yes info is key! lol That was the main reason I started my blog because I was worried when he got the boot people would fade away from lack of talking baout him lol Luckily he has loyal fans!
ReplyDeleteAnd his loyal fans are glad you started Team Covington--it's fun to pop in there and see what's happening! :)
ReplyDeleteI do miss BCO; it was cool to be able to send people there to hear "Can't Be Wrong" and "I Found the One". He does have a seriously dedicated fan base, though--we sure haven't stopped talking about him yet, and I doubt we ever will. Especially when that excellent CD is released...
I know it's killing me to not be able to point people there who haven;t heard his originals.
