A little Shiny Bass revelation...

Bucky Covington and Steve Cook enjoy some conversation with the crowd in Hillsboro, Kansas; thanks again to Judy Lang for the terrific photo.

The word on the street (and at Steve Cook's excellent Shiny Bass Journal--thanks to Jodie for the heads-up) is that Bucky Covington's current single, "Gotta Be Somebody", has "been pulled". Steve does mention speculation about bringing it back (as he noted, the video's doing very well on the charts) and we're waiting for some official clarification on his label's next move, here--gotta love the holiday break, yes? However...

In the grand scheme of things, our moves as Bucky's longtime supporters have always been pretty clear, indeed. No matter what's happening on the corporate front, we're always up for a) packing the house for the shows when we can (and getting the word out about all of Bucky's live gigs, whether we can be there or not) and b) supporting his music at radio, video and retail. It's just what we do. We've done it since Idol, and we'll keep on doing it as long as he keeps on singing and playing.

Steve Cook, Bucky Covington and Ducky Medlock enjoying the hometown energy in Rockingham; thanks again to Judy Lang for this one.

As far as our immediate next move is concerned, we'll keep voting for Bucky as long as he's on any video ballot GAC and CMT have to offer, and we'll keep requesting him on the radio as long as he's got singles--past, present and future--to be played. Getting his voice and name and face out there to be heard and enjoyed has always been a collaborative effort, and that remains just as true today as it was when we first heard his distinctive voice way back when. Are we as ready for it as ever? Yeah, baby. Are we ever going to completely understand the corporate (radio, label, etc.) world's choices? Hmm...I'll only speak for myself and say "probably not completely".

But I do understand this--there is a huge sweet spot where our goals, radio's best interests and the label's desires intersect quite nicely. We all benefit when a hardworking, charismatic, rising country star like Bucky becomes a solid hitmaker. Bucky and his band have logged lots of road time in the past year and a half, building a solid reputation as a high-energy, must-see (and incredibly fun!) live act, and not-so-incidentally supporting those singles. We'll support them, too--this single, and the next, and the next...

Stay tuned for any official word...more soon!

not sure 'pulled' means exactly in this context - I think it might mean that they are not going to "push" GBS as a single but I think we should still request it until another single comes out. Which I hope is IMMEDIATELY and not wait 3 months for the next one.

  2. Anon, thanks and you are so right--it's always excellent policy to support the current single right on up to the date that the next one comes along! I'd love to see a good solid spring/summer hit timed to boost the wind underneath the wings of I'm Alright in April. (I'm presuming that's the month they had in mind.) So...you have a very good point on not wasting much time between singles--as slowly as the country charts move, it's best to stay busy. :)

    Thanks!

Thanks Winnie for saying everything so well. We will be here for Bucky, no matter what! We will always be fans and will support him! His record label needs to get their act together.

    Thanks again,

  5. Jan, thank you! You're very kind and it's a fact--Bucky's got some seriously loyal fans in his corner. It'd be interesting to be a fly on the corporate wall, sometimes...how are the decisions being made, what's the long term strategy, and so on?

In the meantime, as long as "Gotta Be Somebody", the video, is doing so well, I like the idea of voting it all the way up to #1 if we can--it would make a statement, methinks. :) Take care!
