Saturday news: Bucky Covington returns to the Grand Ole Opry January 12th, 2008 (updated with "Santa Claus" download info)

A blast from the past--Bucky Covington's most recent Grand Ole Opry perfomance happened in April. Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music videos are available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear the full versions of his singles at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. A copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered at his official site or via his official fan club. (Photo © 2007 Grand Ole Opry; photo by Billy Kingsley, Hollo Photographics.)

Exciting news for Bucky Covington's Nashville fans--he's been invited to the Grand Ole Opry for an appearance on January 12, 2008. This will be Bucky's third time gracing the legendary stage--head over to the official Opry site for schedule and ticket info, and make plans to be there for a memorable night in Music City. Congratulations, Bucky! (Thanks to Susan for the kind heads-up.)

Kathy at Team Covington has all the details (including a ticket discount tip) about tonight's Raisin' the Bar show at Billy Bob's Texas--sounds like a one of a kind venue for a one of a kind show! After they grace the "World's Largest Honky Tonk" tonight, Bucky Covington, Jason Michael Carroll and Cole Deggs & the Lonesome take a mini-hiatus before their next big bash on Wednesday, December 5th at Northern Lights in Clifton Park, New York . This WGNA-sponsored show benefits the Pennies from Heaven charity. From WGNA's site:

Join us at Northern Lights for a night of great music and holiday cheer! Tickets are just $16 in advance and $19 at the door and $1 from each ticket goes to WGNA’s Pennies from Heaven charity! Doors open at 7:00pm so get there early!

Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or the Northern Lights Box Office. For more information, call 371-0012.

Here are those last few chances to catch Bucky, Jason and Cole as they raise a bar near you. (Editorial comment--this is a must-see combination, y'all. Get there by plane, by train, by snowshoe, but be there!)

December 1 Billy Bob’s Texas Fort Worth, TX [TM]
December 5 Northern Lights Clifton Park, NY [tickets]
December 6 Pepsi-Cola Roadhouse Burgettstown, PA [TM]
December 7 Crocodile Rock Café Allentown, PA [TM]
December 8 Rams Head Live! Baltimore, MD [tickets]

Bucky's concert schedule for the rest of the year is available at his official tour page--he's an absolute delight live, and a Bucky Covington show is a perfect way to brighten up those winter nights. (Yes, I might be a little bit biased...)

As for the charts--they're a delight, too, if consistency is what you crave. "It's Good to Be Us", Bucky's brilliant new single,. is still--you guessed it---#29 on both the Mediabase weighted and Top 500 rankings. There's no such thing as a too-plump bullet! Keep requesting "It's Good to Be Us" at your favorite local or streaming country station, and call in a request at your favorite nationally syndicated country radio show tonight.

Click here to see Bucky Covington's video, It's Good to Be Us, on CMT LoadedWhile we're waiting to enjoy Bucky's video for "It's Good to Be Us" on next week's CMT Top 20 Countdown (I have no advance word on this--just a lot of faith) there's much support we can give it right now. Watch the video at CMT, then give him some love at GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown, CMT's Top 20 Countdown, at the GAC Top 50 Videos of the Year poll and at CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack. (Edited to add an update from our good friend Dixie about this week's video countdown results: "Bucky was back up to #6 on GAC Top 20. In three weeks, he debuted at #6, fell to #10, now back at #6." She also mentioned that the video hit #3 on this week's Pure 12-Pack. Are there some #1 spots ahead? Click those links, vote and keep watching...thanks, Dixie!)

Bucky's rowdy/sweet "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is also making some radio waves--fans in Norfolk can now hear it on 97.3 The Eagle, which brings the list of stations playing this surprise musical gift to five. Fayetteville's WKML, Tampa Bay's WQYK 99.5, Denver's KWLI/92.5 The Wolf and early-adopter 97.3 The Hawk in Des Moines are the others--congratulations to all of Bucky's fans who can hear this one on the radio any time! For the rest of us, the track's available for streaming on Bucky's MySpace, and the interest in it is so high that Lyric Street will be offering it for sale as a digital download beginning next week. Buckyflowers kindly noted in comments that the holiday goodie has hit #124 on the Mediabase weighted chart already--we might be hearing this one for years to come, y'all. How delicious is that?

We'll wrap it up for now with a glance at the newly revised 2008 dates for Bucky Covington--with a hotter-than-ever career taking shape, it pays to plan ahead. (All dates subject to change, naturally--but things sure are looking good and busy!)

January 11 and 12th, 2008: Sound and Speed*, Nashville [tickets]
January 12: Grand Ole Opry, Nashville [tickets]
January 31: Opening for Trace Adkins, Lowell, Mass. [on sale 12/14]

*From what we can gather on the Sound and Speed site, Bucky will be signing autographs at the "Backstage Garage Pass" fan-festival in the afternoon--which should leave him plenty of time for his Opry appearance that evening. The Sound and Speed concert stars Alan Jackson, Taylor Swift and Jason Michael Carroll.

Edited to add: While making my links and checking them twice, I found that the old link to WalMart Music above was broken. (Sorry, y'all!) However, it looks like "Santa Claus is Coming to Town-- along with Bucky's entire album and all its individual tracks--is available at WalMart.com right now. If that last link doesn't work, head to WalMart's Music Downloads main page and type "Bucky Covington" into Search. (I don't have iTunes, but if you do, a look there might reveal a sweet surprise, too...)

See you very soon--enjoy your Saturday!

  4. Hi Moon, Buckyflowers and Anon! Moon, you're right--the charts are pretty glacial, but it sure does look like Bucky's second hit is doing a slow, sweet climb upstairs. The right direction for sure! :)

And Buckyflowers, thanks for the good news about "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"--I see it picked up another radio station yesterday. I'd love to hear this one every Christmas on the radio, wouldn't you? :)

The Opry news was a great way to start the day--go, Bucky indeed! What an honor. I'm not sure if I can make it but I so hope you'll both be there!

Anon, thanks for your question--I haven't seen any definite confirmation about whether or not the performance will be televised, but the 12th is a Saturday, so the answer for now is--could be. :) Thanks!

It has Bucky listed as being at the Sound and Speed event on the
11th and 12th and at the Opry on the 12th. The Sound and Speed concert is the same night he is scheduled for the Opry, so is he not performing at the Sound and Speed concert?

  6. Hi, Anon! Bucky is part of the "Backstage Garage Pass" fan-festival event at Sound and Speed--he'll be signing autographs in the afternoon--but the Sound and Speed site lists the concert performers as Alan Jackson, Jason Michael Carroll and Taylor Swift. The full details on the concert are available at the Sound and Speed site:

    Sound and Speed schedule page

So...it looks like you'll have two places to see Bucky in Nashville on the 12th. Hope that helps and thanks!

When I called to get tickets to the Opry Jan 12, I asked if Bucky was performing for the 6:30 or the 9:30 show. She said PROBABLY the 6:30 as that one would be televised :)
