Friday news: Idol homepage, video shoot photos and more...

Bucky Covington concentrates during a sound check for his show at the Indiana State Fair, 8/15; photo by the very kind Buckaholic, who shares more of her fantastic concert shots in her Flickr photoset. Thanks, Buckaholic! Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. A copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered at his official site or via his official fan club.

Friday begins with a trip to the AmericanIdol.com front page, where you'll find a link to that article about the video shoot for Bucky Covington's new single "It's Good to Be Us" and another link to their video interview with Bucky from earlier this year. (Always good to see him making front page news at Idol!) There's also a wonderful recap on the Bucky Covington fan thread at AI.com by Buckybaby01, who was there cheering and enjoying an evening of showbusiness glamour; she's got some great shots from the day here in her Idol photo album. Many thanks to all the generous fans who've been giving us a glimpse of the video-shoot fun!

At this fairly late point in the morning, you've probably hit the charts already--Bucky's new one is #39 on the Mediabase weighted chart and #40 on the Top 500 today. What's new is that "It's Good to Be Us" is already hitting those nationally-syndicated country radio shows! A fan reported hearing it on The Big Time with Whitney Allen last night; we're guessing that Lia will add it to her popular program soon, too. Feel free to request Bucky on your favorite syndicated show as well as at your local station--even if it's not yet officially on the playlist, requests help Bucky's buzz factor. (Past experience has shown that Bucky Covington and his fans are very good at the buzz thing...)

A fun case in point--last year right around this time, we had no clue about Bucky's label, no preview of his upcoming tunes, and two confirmed (and in retrospect, very much treasured) intimate live dates to look forward to. But when the news of that Country Weekly poll about Idol albums popped up, we sprang into action in a big way, and later in October 2006, Bucky made his very first appearance in Country Weekly magazine--as a cute cartoon in the corner of a page. As we noted in the blog post about the poll win, there was also another reason to check out the issue--a great-looking glossy Chevrolet-sponsored Country Music calendar stapled into the center of the magazine.

This
year--after Bucky's hard work and graciousness during his relentless radio promo tour, a #1 album and a Top Five debut single, lots of killer live shows with Rocky, Don, Shaun and Hans and with Sawyer Brown, two well-received CMA Fest performances, 10,000-plus autographs and smiles (a rough estimate) and a lot of love and support from his devoted fans, Bucky Covington is in that Chevy calendar. How cool is that?

Yes, we are a proud and happy bunch of fans--it's been a wild, exciting ride and it's still just beginning. As Bucky told the Huntsville Times this week, "
I've learned so much since I left the show. I've been growing a lot, and my vocals have improved. I'm just going to continue to bust my a--." We'll be doing the latter, as well--on the phones, and at the shows this fall, cheering him on. (At the risk of being unforgivably cheesy, I'll say it again--it's good to be us, y'all.)

More later today--have a fantastic Friday!

Well country chart listing is in. And Its not too good
Bucky fell from #33 to #37. My guess is he also fell off the billboard 200 as well. So my guess on sales is 3k or less. I wish Lyric Street would get him some day and evening talk shows to promote the new single. That would bump sales up.

  2. I'm with you--I'd love to see more of Bucky on television, too! Wouldn't surprise me if more TV is indeed in the works--and the video should spice things up nicely, too. The "second hit single bump" should kick in for the album as the single itself moves up higher on the chart. Not to mention the many other hot tunes on the CD!

The fact that the album has been in the top 40 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart (with much of that time in the Top 20) since mid April says a lot, considering that it's nearly October! He's got a steady seller there, with lots of hit songs to go, so the overall picture is still looking gorgeous. Gold may come in the "slow and steady" fashion rather than a quick rise and fall--but that album's going gold at least--you've got me in writing now, so feel free to hold me to it. :)

I totally sound like a skipped CD these days (apologies!) but if the short-term chart dips get you down, sometimes looking at the big picture can brighten your mood. And the big picture for Bucky Covington (the singer and the CD) is excellent.

    Thanks for stopping by!

Is anybody going to the Des Moines, Iowa show on Nov 2, or the Uncle Ron's show on Nov 28? I'm going to both and thought I'd see if anyone else is going to be there? ~Rachel

  4. Rachel, I sure would love to be there for those two concerts and I bet I'm not alone. :) No doubt there'll be a few more Iowa/NE readers/lurkers who'll make plans to go as the word gets around. Have a fantastic time at those shows!

  5. I am sure we will be seeing more of Bucky on TV because It's Good to Be Us is a song that will cross musical genres I think and do extremely well. Can't wait to see the video.

Going to the Nashville, Charlotte, and Greenville shows -- what a way to celebrate Thanksgiving :)

  6. Good morning, Cathy Anne, and nice way to kick off the Thanksgiving season! You are going to be rocking the late-autumn in style! :)

You've got a point about "It's Good to Be Us"--it does have a high-energy appeal, and I'm guessing that the sports/MX theme is going to carry the video and the song into some new and interesting viewer/listener territory. Should be fun to watch!
