Wednesday lunchtime news: line dance goodness, a CMA preview and more...

Thanks, Pizzi!Bucky Covington and Rocky Covington (on drums) on stage earlier this month at Hershey Park; click here to enjoy a gorgeous gallery of concert photos by the very kind Pizzi. Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Bucky's got one of those "locals only" happenings in Bakersfield, California today, sponsored by (non-streaming, alas) KUZZ, but never fear--he's got a packed concert schedule, with some new dates listed lately. Chances are very good that Bucky and the band will be within driving distance of wherever you are this summer--see his official site for updated tour news. Hope to see you at a show soon.

As for last night's show, our friend Chan, who listened in via conference call, mentioned that Bucky sang the Bill Withers tune "Ain't No Sunshine" yesterday in Solana Beach. Sounds like the folks at the Belly Up got a major musical treat! We'll keep an eye out for more recaps and photos from that concert as the day goes on.

Kathy of Team Covington has an excellent news post today, including a link to this "New Artist Spotlight" interview by Kristen Scherer of the CMA. (Also a big thanks to Buckyflowers, who left the link in comments.) The American Chronicle article contains some information that's fairly familiar to Bucky's hardcore fans, but it's a perfect introduction for those who are new to his music and his story. (Happily, we can say those "new" listeners are an ever-growing group--welcome to all our first-time readers. Glad to have you along!) Bucky gives a fun answer to the "who's your musical hero" question: "Elvis Presley. His showmanship was second to none and he had such wide appeal because his music crossed into every genre."

It also gives a bit of info for anyone who'd like to check Bucky out at the fest:

Bucky Covington will perform at CMA Music Festival in Downtown Nashville on Friday, June 8 at the Nightly Concert at LP Field. Four-day CMA Music Festival tickets and single night tickets to the individual Nightly Concerts at LP Field are still available to purchase at (615) 255-9600; 1-800-CMA-FEST (262-3378); CMAfest.com; Ticketmaster.com or Ticketmaster outlets. Covington will also perform on Thursday, June 7 during the Complete Country Show from 2 to 4 PM at the Greased Lightning® Daytime Stages at Riverfront Park. Single-day tickets for the Greased Lightning® Daytime Stages will be sold the day of each show at the gate for only $14 each. Children 6 and younger are admitted FREE of charge.

GMA at CMA Music FestivalThat is going to be a fantastic time! Those of us who won't be able to make it to Bucky's CMA Fest debut still have a taste of the experience to look forward to; ABC will be airing a two-hour primetime special, CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, on Monday, July 23. The network will be gathering footage during the entire festival, which runs June 7-10; will Bucky get some sweet quality primetime performance airtime? (Words cannot describe how tightly my fingers are crossed for that beautiful possibility...)

Meanwhile, we know for sure he'll be on Good Morning America on June 7th. From the article: "Good Morning America's" Weather Anchor Sam Champion will report live from Nashville, Thursday, June 7, giving viewers a front-row seat for CMA Music Festival. Champion will be joined by Bucky Covington and The Wreckers from the third-floor, rooftop patio at Graham Central Station. Get those DVRs, VCRs and Tivos on standby...

Bucky's single, "A Different World", is #15 on both the the Top 500 and weighted Mediabase charts as of post time, but it's very, very close to the song above it, and tantalizingly poised to take a leap upstairs. You know the drill: request "A Different World" at your favorite local and streaming country stations. This week, it's crucial! And feel free to support the video at the GAC Top Twenty and CMT's Pure 12-Pack voting pages today, too. (We're still looking for that #1 at GAC, y'all--you can only vote once a day on that countdown, but there's no rule that says you can't recruit a Bucky-fan friend or two.) Tomorrow, Billboard's Top Country Albums chart updates for the week--will Bucky's album bounce back into the Top Ten? Tune in tomorrow...

Finally, a fun fact from the Usenet scene--did you know that Bucky's "Bible and the Belt" already has an official line dance? It's true! Famed line dance choreographer Kathy Heller has put one together for the song, and it's already hit the clubs in a big way. From the World Line Dance Newsletter:

I went to the Texas Rose Saloon In Davie, FL last night with a few of my students. Kathy Heller introduced her latest dance, to Bucky Covington ( from American Idol, last season) music, "The Bible and the Belt". It was a floor filler...

A floor filler--we like the sound of that! You can find a script with the steps here on Mrs. Heller's site. Line dance intructional videos often hit YouTube, and we're hoping that "Bible and the Belt" gets a teaching video of its own soon.

More later--thanks for bearing with our tech problems today. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Oh, this is so exciting!! A dance to go with B & B..just like Billy Ray Cyrus's Achy Breaky Heart..that is what made that song so big...the dance propelled it. Of course, I need a video to learn it. I read the instructions and ...well, I lost track.

  5. Debbie, Kathy and Anon, count me in on wanting to learn that B&B line dance, too! I'll need a video as well--really hope someone puts it up soon!

And Buckyflowers, that "Achy Breaky Heart" info is very interesting, indeed--would love for "Bible and the Belt", the song and the dance, to go the same way!

I don't know yet Bucky's placement on the country album chart. But it looks good. i don't see him dropping below his #12 finish from last week.
