Number One Wednesday! First photos from Charleston, and more...

Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, preview his entire CD at Clear Channel Music, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Edited to add a link to today's news column at Billboard, where Bucky's chart feats are detailed:

"American Idol" season five eighth-place finalist Bucky Covington's self-titled Lyric Street debut starts at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 61,000 units. On the latter chart, it's the biggest start by a new male artist since Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" debuted with 90,000 in 1992. (Thanks, Marzy.)

Bucky's incredible debut on the charts has left us all a little breathless--with the #1 country album this week, and the #4 album on the Billboard Top 200, it's definitely time to celebrate! And with that in mind, the request and voting links go right on top today--it's the last day for voting on this week's
CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack video countdown and a number one spot there to go with Bucky's country album chart #1 would be sweet. At GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown , the polling continues all week long--drop in and cast your ballot this morning. With that huge chart news on the horizon, your local country station will be all ears! Give them a call, request "A Different World", and see what happens. (And feel free to keep requesting it at legacy station WKML, too! Send an email to country@wkml.com, and tune into the Top 5 at 6 to see how Bucky fares in Fayetteville.)

If you'd like to congratulate Bucky directly, the comments section at his most recent USA Today diary is a great place to show him some love...

We're waiting for the official word from Soundscan--as soon as it's available, you'll find the link to the newest Billboard/Soundscan chart right here. Billboard updates its charts on Thursdays; look for Bucky's familiar CD cover on the Top Country Albums and Top 200 Albums charts on Billboard.com tomorrow, and in the print edition on Friday. (That newsstand copy of Billboard might make a fun keepsake! I'm considering buying it and framing that chart, myself...)

Bucky will be celebrating the big news on the road tonight; he's performing at a private event sponsored by WKHX/Kicks 101.5 in Atlanta. Here's a link to the station's photo album, where shots might turn up in a few days, but there should be lots of fan photos from this one coming up, too--we'll keep an eye out and post the links as they become available. You can keep up with Bucky's live shows via the tour schedule at his official site--hope he'll be making a stop near you soon!

Tuesday's WEZL Sunset Harbor Cruise with Bucky Covington was every bit as lovely as it sounded, judging by the station's gorgeous
photo gallery from the event. Enjoy 255 (!) shots of Bucky, Rocky, lots of very happy fans, and the beautiful scenery as the "Spirit of Charleston" was rocked by the man with this week's #1 selling country album. (Big thanks to Becky for the gracious heads-up.)

And if you loved those CMT Outsider segments Bucky hosted at CMT Loaded, you're in luck--three new ones have just been added, and word has it they're just as fantastic. (Thanks to Sunscreen of the Bucky Truck Stop at Rawkhands for the news!)

In print news, the first paragragh of this Robesonian newspaper story on Bucky refers to the Big Hearts Bash from a few days back, but the excellent CD review and quotes from Bucky are a treat you won't want to miss. (And while we're not connected to the paper in any way, we love the headline...)

Finally, there's a bit of brand-new (and "new-old") Bucky-related goodness at You Tube today, courtesy of the very kind Lisa/letusjudge of Buck Wild. Take a fond look back, and celebrate today's sweet chart-topping news.

Back with more a little later today--see you then!

In all this excitement, it's important for people to not forget to request ADW. There's still a bullet, but the songs ahead and behind have higher bullets. There's a good chance this song will hit top 20 after a few go recurrent this weekend. It would be nice to keep it there.

Do you know if anyone is able to copy that AI interview.everytime I go to watch it, all it says is loading. It has now been loading for an hour now. Any ideas why it won't play??

  5. Good morning! Icyfire, arent those shots fun? Gotta love the radio station for documenting that cruise so well. There should be some fan photos coming soon, too...

Honeygirl, hi! Love that article (and I sure can't quibble with the headline!) I'll add that to the post in a few moments...

Anon, you're right and great minds think alike--the expanded version of the post says the same thing. "A Different World" is in a good spot right now to make the next big leap, and the momentum is happening...

Marzy, I so wish I could help you but I have never seen any of the Idol.com or CMT videos! Half the media I link to, I can't watch due to the age of my computer, so I'm afraid I can be of no help at all. Hope someone reading this can give you a hand so that you can see Bucky's interview!

Marzy, did you try more than once to get it to play? The first time I tried it, it kept saying loading for me too. It was taking longer than I thought it should, so I stopped and tried again. On the second try, it started fairly quickly. Laurianne

According to Allaccess Bucky's sales are down 65% from last weeks first day sales. (only based on first day sales) Thats a big drop.

They always drop off a lot during the second week. That's not unusual at all.

  9. The pictures are great, and there's Hildi...She's living the life following Bucky all over. Awesome and more power to you. The interview was great too.
    #1 - Fantastic...

  10. I have to say, I did NOT like Bucky during AI. But, from what I've heard of the new CD, his label has done great things for him. I'm glad to see that things are progressing for him. Good luck with the new CD, Bucky!

  11. Laurianne, hello and thanks for the tech advice! I hope that works for you, Marzy! :)

Janet Wilson, welcome--thanks for stopping by and for your kind words!

Anon, at the risk of sounding like a Pollyanna, that drop is nothing to be too alarmed about. First day sales (especially for Idol-alum singers) look different from subsequent days, because most of us hardcore fans like to have the cd on the first day. So that is a fairly common pattern.

It's a lot of fun to celebrate this week's country #1! The thing to focus on in the long run is...the long run. "A Different World" is the first single, but there are many potential singles on the CD. That will affect long term sales in a very positive way. Also, any number of factors--strong reviews, TV appearances, good word of mouth--also have an impact on long term CD sales. Watching the percentages from day to day doesn't give the big picture, so if watching them truly makes you feel anxious and worried for Bucky, maybe checking things out week by week might be better.

I will say this to everyone today, and I believe it with all my heart:

Being a Bucky Covington fan should be fun!

Bucky's got a great team, a great label and great fans behind him, as well as an excellent CD.

There are highly paid professionals at Lyric Street sweating the big stuff. Our best move as fans is to support Bucky with requests, CD and download purchases, concert attendance, good word of mouth, positive online buzz and applause. If you're doing all that, you've done your best.

If there's ever a time that watching the charts, the stats or the press makes you feel bad, take a break and enjoy something Bucky-related (or not!) to do that feels good instead. (To quote Bucky: "If something's bothering you, don't dwell on it. Just let it go. Worrying ain't gonna do nothing but make it worse.")

Fluctuations will happen--that's life in the music business. Songs go up and down charts, sales surge and then slow and then surge again. Past a certain point, however, there's an element of sheer faith involved. Do you feel in your heart of hearts that Bucky's got that 20-plus year career ahead of him, if he wants it? Do you feel he's got some great professionals behind him helping him to get to that goal? If you do, the unavoidable, occasional changes, bumps and backtracks can be taken in stride.

My deepest desire and biggest wish for everyone who pays me the compliment of coming to this blog is that their experience supporting Bucky should be a joyful one overall--no matter what the statistics or the critics have to say. I hope you're feeling joyful about our #1 rising star today! :)

  13. (PS--Anon, my apologies--I just reread what I wrote and I certainly don't want you to feel like you were singled out for a lecture! It just broke my heart to think that any fan of Bucky's was worried or upset during such a happy time. I'm glad you stopped by. :)

And Marzy, thank you for the heads up on Billboard--I'll find it and link it out front! :)

  14. Pizzi, hi there! :) I agree--those photos are so much fun. (And Hildi looks like she's having a wonderful time in her picture! Bucky is definitely blessed in the fan department... :)

Winnie, I hope you post your "let's follow Bucky's philospphy" comments on the front of the blog. It is so easy to get hung up on charts and numbers and forget what really matters, that Bucky has created a great debut CD that holds up to repeated listens (my iPod is getting a real workout :D)It's like my financial advisor tells me when I obsess about the daily fluctuations of the stock market---"We're in it for the long haul."

  17. Hi Matt! The big question is--did it work? ;)

And Beesims, gotta say that your stock market analogy is great--I'm going to have to borrow that. It's so true--the long haul is what really tells the story. Thanks!
