First look at Monday...
Updated 11:24 a.m.: Head over to Idol Chatter at USAToday.com now and enjoy Bucky's take on a few of the album tracks, the CDs he's been signing for the fan-club pre-orders, and more! (And while you're there, say hello to him in comments--it really is fun to read about his days as the CD release approaches, and it's great that we can let Bucky know how much we're enjoying the backstage peek.) Full post soon, I promise!-Winnie
Where's Bucky this morning. USA Today, WAKE UP...we are waiting to read BUCKY!
ReplyDeleteNot so good news on mediabase this morning. down 2 spots plus a loss of aud imp on both charts. OUCH. Weve all got some work to do.
ReplyDeleteIt also looks like we lost 13 stations. Last week there were 197 stations playing Bucky. Now only 184????? I hope he hasn't gone as far as he can
ReplyDeleteI kind of expected Taylor Swift to pop over him because radio loves her at the moment. Pat Green jumped back over him though. He even went over Taylor which surprises me.Bucky being on TV in the coming week and the Opry on Saturday will boost casual requests. Those two songs volleying around him doesn't bother me much, they are all 3 close enough to move up around in spins, but the lost stations?? What's that about? The song is gaining steam so I can;t imagine a station dropping it off their play list completely. I don't understand enough about radio to know if this is normal.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the station loss either. That's really odd. It's not like this is an old song either (like Pat's).
ReplyDeleteI hope Lyric starts putting a little more muscle behind this. At the very least, this song should make Top 20. It's certainly good enough too (and I realize I'm biased but it's a much better song than Taylor Swift's, which seems like a rehash of a rehash of Tim McGraw to me)
Good monring, Judge, Kathy, and Anons!
ReplyDeleteA chart slip on Monday morning isn't fun, I know. It's always a lot more enjoyable to see that chart position getting higher!
I am really not even close to being a chart expert (at all!) but my guess is that some of the news reflects stations that were only playing him while he was in town to do promo--and those stations really need requests to boost his profile, so that they know their listeners are interested in the song. (At least, it's true at my hometown station, which is quite conservative about their playlist.) Combine that with countdown spins from stations who haven't yet formally added the song, and those sweet syndicated spins from Lia and Bo Reynolds this week, and the station news might be more complex than it seems. (Again--I am no expert at all! Hope someone readng this will be able to correct and clarify...I know those aren't the only factors in the station picture.)
The main thing is that both the label and we keep supporting "A Different World" at those stations that currently only play it during a countdown or when he's in town, as well as giving the stations that are playing it some positive feedback. Kathy raises a good point, too--with the tons of TV and such Bucky will be doing in the next week or so, there will be an increase of casual requests from people who don't follow the charts--they just like the song and Bucky.
And--you knew I was going to say it--"A Different World" still has that lovely red bullet. So that means that when all the elements are factored, the general direction is still the direction we like...up.
I'll say this too...and again, take it for what it's worth (which may not be much :)--Bucky is doing exceptionally well overall. Chart fluctuations aren't fun, but they really are a normal thing. "A Different World" is in a beautiful spot for a song without any physical purchase options and with no CD yet released to back it up, and it's got a lot of love behind it from the likes of us. Heaven knows we are keeping the request lines hot. :)
Bless Bucky's heart. This USA blog was more serious and it may just be me but I am feeling his stress as the drop date approaches. Also, reading it after reading the above comments about chart action just has put me in an Alabama Blue. Need to go back and leave a comment to boost him and me!!
ReplyDeleteYou know I kept getting a subdued vibe while I was reading it myself. Maybe he is just super busy preparing for press things as those will start to amp up the closer that cd gets.
