Bucky Covington now has a second scheduled date at the Grand Ole Opry--he'll be appearing on April 7th with Mel Tillis and Emerson Drive. This is a Saturday show; there's a chance we'll be able to catch this one on Grand Ole Opry Live on GAC, depending on which shows are chosen for the broadcast. With any luck, we'll have more information about the GAC show closer to airdate. (Thanks to BuckyChaser at the Fox boards for the good news.) More details very soon!--Winnie
Ok im getting a little concerned with Buckys pre sales on Amazon. He is rated 14,000 in sales. OUCH!!! I am really worried that he may flop. Elliott is already rated 90 for sales. Does this happen to other new country artists. His listens on his myspace are dropping really fast too. He only has less then 900 at the time of this post. Its really upsetting to me. I really want Bucky to succeed.
Well, I can ease your mind about both of those numbers! The normal new-artist pattern for Amazon pre-orders is that when a CD is first listed, there's a huge jump as all the dedicated fans hop on it--and then there's a lull for a while. When the video is out and the single reaches Top 40, then Top 30, there will be a steady rise again, as more casual buyers begin to look for the album.
And MySpace listens are reset every time there there's a change to the player--for example, when the label took off the old clips and put on the new ones with that spoken "welcome" by Bucky at the end--so it's hard to tell how many actual listens there might have been overall.
There's so much time between now and the release date of the CD--and so many good things are in the works, including the debut of the video and not one but two Opry dates, one of which will be televised! Combine all that with the steady rise of "A Different World" and all the radio (and later TV) interviews that Bucky will be doing as 4/17 grows closer, and you'll feel a lot more confident by the time you actually have that CD in your hands.
This is definitely a time to celebrate! Faith in Bucky's excellent talents is going to make the weeks between now and April a lot more fun--so relax and enjoy the journey. He'll get there--and so will we. :)
I don't think Bucky is going to be a big seller online - I think his stronghold is going to be in Walmarts, etc. of the world. Case in point: Bo outpaced Carrie by a long shot in presales but didn't come anywhere near her numbers. Maybe it's a country music thing.
Although I do think that anyone who expects Carrie/Daughtry numbers for this CD are going to be highly disappointed. I hope that's not what people expect because I don't think the label will have those kind of inflated expecatations because those types of sales are definitely not the norm and Bucky seems to be taking the slow and steady, more normal approach to his career. The only mega seller Lyric has is Rascal Flatts and anyone who honestly thinks he will sell as much as Flatts his first time out is suffering from delusion, IMO.
Bucky also only has 4 song clips up and no set title, album cover, etc. I wouldn't expect people to preorder much at least until things are more set in stone.
His single is chugging along - I wouldn't worry too much at this point. They're doing everything right with him so far.
I think that's a good point, Anon, and I think you have an excellent handle on the label's--and most of our--expectations.
What's interesting is that Bucky himself has mentioned so many times that he's in this for the long haul--"not overnight success, but a career". Neither he nor most of us seem to be thinking in that all or nothing, big smash-or-trash style that Idol, unfortunately, seems to subtly encourage.
That steady and long term approach is not only healthy, but wise--a good solid string of artistically and commercially successful Bucky Covington albums would be wonderful. (I will confess that I am not really much of a numbers-watcher, although I have to do a little of that for the blog. But I have complete faith that he'll do very well with this first CD.)
Bucky has a fantastic attitude about all this, and I think he's gonna stick around for that long career he says he wants. (And it'll be fun to watch it unfold...)
I didn't know that about Bo and Carrie's pre-orders--thanks! I guess Amazon pre-orders aren't quite the barometer they're sometimes portrayed as being, after all--good news for our first Anon. :)
yay! Yes and I agree with Bucky not being a big online seller. Carrie fans panicked when he was way ahead of her initally online but in real world sales she blew him out of the water(sorry Bo!) Can't wait to share this at CW hee hee *evil laugh
91,676 is the total number of plays on the "jukebox" at his my space. Way too early to panic....and dont forget the ones that reuse to order ANYTHING on line because of having to enter thier credit card information which a hacker might get.
Alot of Bucky fans at the gac concert I talk to said they never talked with others online about him.I ask to see if I had chatted with them on line.So there are alot of fans that do not know about the CD yet. freezing in Ohio Becky.
Kathy, that CW thread must be a hoot--wish I could see it better! :)
And Bunny, that's a good point, too--there are a lot of people who have had a bad experience shopping online (or know someone who has) and won't do it--but they will be there at the big discount place as soon as they know Bucky's got a CD out...
And Becky, that is true--and it's something to think about, too. We're so used to chatting about music online that we sometimes need to be reminded how many people aren't on music boards and fan sites--but they know what they like, and they'll buy the CD once they know it's out.
That's why Bucky's doing all these radio interviews (and why he'll probably be on TV a lot just before the album is released)--so that all the casual, offline music lovers will know what we know. I think the label is handling his promotional business very well indeed.
And of course, the very best advertisement for an upcoming CD is a hit single... :)
