Bucky Covington on stage in Murray, Kentucky; concert photo courtesy of the very kind Dixiegirl7. Thanks!
Bucky Covington is scheduled to be interviewed on the WKML 95.7 morning show sometime after 8 a.m. ET--hop over to the station's site and listen in on their live stream. (So far this morning, I haven't been able to get the stream to work on my outdated PC, but if I can, I'll do a play-by-play here, and there's sure to be one at the Fox boards, too. Enjoy your morning coffee with Bucky!
And in Mediabase airplay news, Bucky's single "Different World" moved up a notch to 68, with new stations in Grand Rapids, Bakersfield and Tuscon spinning the tune.
C'mon back soon!
(Edited to add a bit of play-by-play...)
8:12--"The last time we talked to this young man, he didn't have a record contract..." Bucky says hi and expresses happiness with his label, Lyric Street: "not only did they get on board--they pushed the boat!" Bucky says he heard the song on radio first on WKML when he "pulled up in [Rocky's] driveway as it was finishing up."
Album--still working on it! He and Mark Miller have picked out everything they want to be on it--hardest part is finding studio time. When the DJ asked him about his time, and whether or not Bucky ever had a chance to stop and enjoy a meal, Bucky replied that he has a "lot more time to grab a snack than you might think!" Not much time to take in all that's happened, but Bucky says he once stopped and looked at Scott Reeves as they were on the GAC tour bus and asked him "can you believe we do this for a living?"
Mentioned that he talks to Kellie and Chris once or twice a week--he believes Elliott may have just landed a deal with Sony [note--as of now, it sound as though this refers to Elliott's publishing deal, but we're hoping to hear about a recoding deal soon] and compliments E's voice, saying Elliott can "just wail". Kellie's new boyfriend is a Predators hockey player; Bucky says "congratulations!"
Lyric Street is "awesome"--they've "flat out been there, done it and got it down" as a successful record label. He was asked about "Different World" writers; Bucky gave their names and thanked them after a moment. DJ says the song is "hottest thing since sliced bread--everyone can relate. Bucky gives writers credit--"knocked it out of the park". Bucky's official MySpace is getting ready to be redone. "I'm a computer idiot", he claims.
"Be smart and jump on it early!", DJ says to stations listening, when he speaks about Bucky's single. DJ expressed pride in Bucky as their hometown Idol--later says he's very excited about the single and again encourages other stations to get on board...
This is a mega-rushed play-by-play, but all sorts of news should pop up throughout the day...
Edited to add a link to the interview thread at the Fox boards; Rocky Covington was interviewed this morning on Wilmington's WWQQ-FM. No live stream from the station's site, but Hildi's post in the Fox board thread pointed us to the very fun photo page--you'll definitely want to take a peek. And that "friend from Canada" that the DJ mentioned several times during his show? Looks like that was our own friend Marzy--congratulations!
While we're speaking of Rocky and Wilmington, a reminder that his 1/13 "farewell party" concert with Swamp Cat at Marrz is right around the corner--check his news page for details, and enjoy the show!
See you soon...
