Quick update, 1/12

A great image from the GAC tour, re-posted by request; Bucky Covington on stage in Weldon NC, photo by the very generous BluIsDixieGurl. Thanks so much!

(Edited to add a link to some fun news at Bucky's official site, BuckyCovingtonMusic.com, about the video for his new single, "A Different World." Yes, you heard right--the video is coming. Go catch up! I'll be here...Winnie)

Here's a quick look at what's happening today:

Bucky Covington's official MySpace is back in the saddle; the site was updated yesterday with new information about his label, release dates and more. We're hoping that "A Different World" becomes part of the audio offerings there on Tuesday morning--it would be fun to greet visitors to your profile with the sound of Bucky's debut single! Be sure to add Bucky's official space and Bucky Covington Fans to your friends list, and stay in the know...

It'd also be fun to finish the week with a "Top 5 at 6" win tonight at WKML, so be sure to drop them a line at country@wkml.com and put in a good word for Bucky! We'll see you here at about 6 ET for the countdown.

This weekend's Sound and Speed event in Nashville sounds like a major party--Bucky is listed as one of the artists participating in the Backstage Garage Pass Autograph Session from 9:00 to 5:00 tomorrow at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. It's a definite must-go if you're anywhere near Nashville! There's a lot going on--here's the official schedule.

Those three new tour dates at Bucky's official site are more than likely the first of several shows with Saywer Brown over the course of the spring and summer. The official Sawyer Brown tour page offers their entire 2007 road schedule to date, with meet-and-greet information for fan club members. (Looks like there are many perks that come with the Sawyer Brown fan club, including advance ticket purchase opportunities. Will Bucky's fan club offer a similar set of options? Stay tuned...)

Finally, Bucky's moved up a notch at Mediabase--a few days before its Tuesday release, "A Different World" is number 66 as of this writing, with a new station in Philadelphia among those hopping on board. (Yesterday, it was also the Number One new track downloaded by country radio DJs, according to the industry journal Country Air Check. Oh, yeah...things are looking mighty good from here.)

See you later today!

"A Different World" Video & Photo Shoot
    January 12th, 2007
Bucky is fast at work and in the next two weeks Bucky will be doing a photo shoot for his upcoming album and filming a video for his debut single "A Different World". Keep your eyes open in the coming months for the video on CMT and GAC. The album is slated to be released on April 17th.

Okay you creative types...what would be a good concept for Bucky's first video?

I like the idea of just Bucky and his guitar. Those sad, wistful eyes should be a major selling point with a song like this. Then mingle Bucky footage with maybe some vintage footage of a family back in the 50's and 60's, black and white even. It could even have sort of a slide effect (I'm only a few years older than Bucky but I remember watching family slides)

Give it a small town, homegrown kind of feel. Simpler would be better in this case.

This should be an easy song to come up with a video concept for, methinks.

  6. GES, I think you've got it. Bucky's got an expressive face and performing style, and a little vintage footage would add a bit of charm...

  7. Oh that slide idea is excellent! Yes do those scenes in b&w or sepia toned. I remember getting out the screen and the slide projector etc. Great idea Ges. yes you can almost see this video in your head the first time you hear it.

You know how it blurs a bit when they flip through the slides? An effect like that would be cool.

Obviously, I've thought WAY too much about this . . .

It wouldn't even have to be slides necessarily - old video footage with all of the lines and imperfections would work as well.

Sorry I added this to a new post. I don't know if I can edit a previous one.

  10. No worries, GES--feel free to use as many of Blogger.com's pixels as you need, since they don't offer comment editing at all up in here. :)

Sounds like we've all been picturing this video in our minds--a little retro imagery (scratchy film, slides, faded photos), a lot of Bucky performing, a dollop of natural wistfulness. The lyrics almost write the video themeselves.

As long as they don't go tricky with it (no Jetsons/futuristic twist ending, please oh please--no!) they really can't miss. Bucky is great in front of the camera, so they're off to a big head start right away.
