Cure the Kids radiothon

The Cure the Kids Radiothon is in progress--click here to listen live! 99.9 Kiss Country will be broadcasting live all day from the Asheville Mall; proceeds from the Radiothon benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Bucky Covington is said to be doing an acoustic set (just got word this may be an interview only online, with live performance for mallgoers only--check Fox boards for details and possible conference call ) around noon ET today, so be sure to listen in, enjoy some great music, and find out how you can help the Foundation help children and families affected by pediatric cancer.

If you'd like to make a donation right now: call 298-2981 (local), 1-877-281-CURE (toll free), or use the donation form at the Foundation's site.

12: 45--I lost my stream mid-interview, but I did catch that Bucky will indeed be flying out to Las Vegas tonight for the Nevada Ballet's Saturday night gala for Paula Abdul, who has been named their Woman of the Year for 2007. Kathy at Team Covington has much more on this event--head over there now for details! And an update from Happy, via Hildi:

He is signing autographs for a long line currently. His Lyric Street Management is there. She spoke with him and he said the video was filmed in California and is complete. It is being reviewed and edited currently and will be on air in two to three weeks. In adition to grandma and grandpa, there are several cousins present also. She will call when they get a guitar for him. His guitar did not make the connection at airport. They flew from Nashville through Cinci. to Ashville. Guitar will catch up with him soon. They are still looking for a guitar.

1:39--Bucky's back on, I'm told, and a fan's donation has just been announced. Here's to generous hearts! More in a moment...

2:00--Bucky played an acoustic set just now (I couldn't be on the call, so I'm stealing the info from the Fox boards: Bucky sang "Wave on Wave", "Different World" and "Keep Your Hands to Yourself") and spoke to the DJs. He told of listening to the radio on the drive from Nashville to Rockingham, switching radio stations hoping to hear "A Different World", but he didn't hear it until he got to Rocky's driveway. The DJs told him he should have been listening to Kiss Country; Bucky's reply was something along the lines of "Well, I wanted to talk to you about that--I was listening to Kiss Country!" Much laughter ensued...

He'll be promoting single until summer, real touring around fall. Thanked Mark Miller's son Gunnar for telling Mark about him, and joked that Gunnar (who is 10) might be looking for a percentage point or two. (There's a much better recap here--enjoy!)

Thanks to Happy and Hildi for conference call info and general kindness. More soon!

I just have to say that that screencap of Bucky, head thrown back in a gut-splitting guffaw is priceless. (Yeah, I had a moment of concern, but I don't feel sorry for William Hung at all, he's made a million dollars!) Bucky was really great last night - he showed he's sharp in addition to being a fun-loving, regular guy with an infectious smile.

These are good times to be a Bucky fan, that's for sure.

  3. Anon, that was definitely a classic moment! You know, I have a vague memory of Bucky saying that he really hadn't followed Idol that closely before trying out...wonder if that was his first real William Hung Experience?

Hoping Bucky will be doing a lot of TV as the CD debut approaches. He really was a joy to watch and listen to.

And Kathy, hope you're able to listen but I can sure relate to your busy day! Bet there'll be plenty of help later, though... :)

"Nashville has really embraced this young man and is all a buzz" about Bucky per DJ. :D

I don't feel sorry for William Hung either - he has basically no talent and has still made a million. I especially liked Bucky's honest reaction contrasted with the PC niceties of the rest of the them. (Ace did look close to bursting into laughter though) It's refreshing and it's part of what I loved about him on the show.

  12. Anon, my bad--I had Arizona on the brain, but it's the Nevada Ballet, of course.

And I did not "borrow" that guitar, y'all!

Gunnar Miller deserves a medal. That is all. :)
