Coolest web app in the history of Western Civilization? Maybe...

Another great concert shot by DeniseBernadette, posted by request; Bucky Covington during last summer's tour. Thanks again for writing!

So--you'd like to know who's playing Bucky Covington's single, "A Different World", right now--as in right now? Thanks to the incredibly cool Yes.com, you can find out--in nearly real time--exactly where "Different World" is playing at this very moment. (The good news? It seems to be playing in a lot more places than we first thought. If Bucky's song is being played right now on a Yes.com tracked station, it'll be listed behind this link--at time of this post, the list included the following (edited for space):

A Different World KSD (St. Louis, MO) 8:03PM CST
A Different World KFTX (Corpus Christi, TX) 8:14PM CST
A Different World WKML (Fayetteville, NC) 9:30PM EST
A Different World WGH (Norfolk - Virginia Beach - Newport News, VA) 9:34PM EST

The lists only last a few moments after the song is played, since it's a real-time tracker--if no one's spinning Bucky at the moment, you'll get a message reading "Sorry, but Bucky Covington has not been heard lately." (That message will be appearing less and less, soon enough...)

There's also a way of tracking what your local station--or a station in any given U.S. market--has played recently, too--click a blue dot on this map to choose a city, pick a station, and voila! (The map is national, but our "city" and "station" links in that last sentence will lead you to our friends at WKML. You can roam all over the country, of course.)

We're still getting the hang of Yes.com, so feel free to share any tips or tricks you might find along the way--but as a method of peeking "backstage" at real-time airplay, this toy is hard to beat. We'll have the link permanently placed under the red radio section of our sidebar later tonight.

(Edited to add--yes, there's a voting option! You'll need to register at Yes.com to rank songs. When you see that "A Different World" is being played, click the blue link with the call letters of the station listed. If the song is still in progress at the station's page, there will be a blue box at the bottom with the title and a "thumbs up/thumbs down" graphic. Click the thumbs up--of course!--and press "yes" to enter your vote. That's it! Looks like you can only rank songs as they're playing, so if you click too late, never fear--there will be other chances. Have fun! More details to come as we get familiar with the site.)

I got to listen to it online just as it was about 3/4 through the third time tonight and the DJ was giving the final count. They take 100 calls I think throughout the little event...no online voting. Very cool!

LOL LOL The DJ said good things about "Different World" and then said that it was new song by "Bucky Covington" and then added that "he does not like to be called just Bucky anymore"....lol...I do not know what that means but was funny and then he said "Bucky Covington it is" and said again about how he had a definitely "make it" with the new song.

  17. Wow--he really is everywhere. And the comments from Sacramento are very interesting--especially since that was an all-call poll. Sounds good from here!

  20. Hi, Anon--

As far as I can gather (I'm new to the site, too) the votes are per station--so a song could be #1 at one station, #12 at another, and have no ranking if it's new at a third.

When you see a song listed on an Artist page, the number beside it is its ranking at that particular station.

    Here's a bit from the Yes.com FAQ:

Q: How do you determine the charts?

A: Each time a song is played it gets 1 point. For each positive vote we add 1 point, for each negative vote we subtract 1 point. Ever day at midnight we rank songs by their score from the last 7 days. The most recent spin breaks a tie.

So we start with airplay charts which are taken over by audiences rating songs they like or hate.

Q: How do you calculate the National Charts?

A: Every day at midnight we aggregate scores from every station we cover to determine the National Rank.

(The national chart is that big top 20 list from all genres that is on the front page of Yes.com.)

    Hope that helps! :)
