Front-page news? We think so...

Bucky Covington on Country Night, fuzzy screencap by me.Another front-page Idol moment; Bucky Covington on Country night, fuzzy screencap by me.

With the GAC Country Christmas concerts in full swing, Bucky Covington becomes the first American Idol Season Five alumnus to hit the road on a formal tour since the final strains of "Living in America" echoed from the Wilkes-Barre American Idols Live finale. Think that's front-page news? We do, too. An group of enterprising Bucky fans would like to see his accomplishment grace the American Idol homepage; one contacted Steve, who is TPTB at the official Idol boards, and got this reply:

I'll forward this to Fox. You may also want to post this information in the Fox Reality forum and get a bunch of Bucky fans to post support. http://www.foxreality.com -- Steve

If you're a member at the Idol boards, you'll need a separate account for the Fox Reality forums--by all means sign up and let your voice be counted. There are several other contact options listed in the thread at the Fox boards, so go there to catch up with the latest info.

While Bucky's all-important post-Idol career is starting off with a snowy bang, I think that putting Bucky's current tour news on the American Idol homepage would be a wonderful win-win situation for Bucky and for the Idol franchise--his presence on the GAC tour really underscores the idea that Idol does indeed give deserving unknowns a chance to let their talents shine. After that boost, of course, it's up to the singers to work hard, stay focused and keep going for it--and Bucky's certainly doing just that, whether it involves laying down great tracks at a studio in Nashville, or touring the Midwest in the middle of a blizzard on a bus that reaches a top speed of 40 mph. His fans absolutely could not be prouder of him--and we're betting Idol is proud of him, too. The man is definitely front page news...

And needless to say, the acknowledgment would also be a neat bookend to Bucky's career as an Idol. With Season Six little more than a month away, and with Bucky embarking on his first tour as an emerging country-rocker, rather than an "Idol", this would be a lovely gesture of mutual respect. Bucky and American Idol are already headed their separate ways now, and the future is bright in both directions. The front page notice would be a graceful ending to a winning combination.

I'll hop off my soapbox now--tour news post later today!
