Bucky Covington and the buzz factor

Another great photo by Honeygirl--Bucky and Home Cookin' on stage at Hugo's, October 13th. Thanks again to Honeygirl!

There's an excellent post at the Fox boards today about Bucky's future, and an interesting discussion is taking shape. As Season Six approaches, and as Bucky makes the transition from "ex-Idol singer" to "Nashville newcomer", where will his fans gather, and how can his supporters help to keep him in the spotlight while we wait for that much-anticipated first single and that (smash-hit) debut CD?

As we mentioned a few posts ago, reliable rumor has it that a new official Bucky Covington site and fan club are in the works--and since official sites are often the first stop for newly-minted fans, the timing couldn't be any better. With the Fox boards making their inevitable sweep for the new season this winter, Bucky's longtime and newer listeners are ready for a permanent central, authorized place to gather. And it's a safe bet his new not-yet-named label is aware of the tremendous grassroots support Bucky has online--as street teams go, we're already quite a force to be reckoned with! (There are some very good "street team" ideas in that thread as well--among other things, posters at both the CMT and Country Weekly boards are now very aware that there's a passionate demand for Bucky's first album...)

Bucky's blessed with some terrific fan sites and an excellent "grapevine", too--Bucky Country and Team Covington both have newsletters with up-to-date information on his doings, and many Yahoo groups (see sidebar) have been in place for a while, ready to get the word out fast. Combine these with an official newsletter and/or board, and watch that buzz begin.

And let's face it, buzz is a huge part of what makes supporting a new artist fun. New photos, new downloads, new shows, new conversations, and eventually, a new CD full of Bucky's beautiful, distinctive voice and new fans to enjoy it with. As MJ of MJ's Big Blog said so eloquently, "Regular information KEEPS FAN BASES HAPPY. Oh, yes it does." Buzz--and information--will do a lot to keep us engaged during Bucky, Rocky and Sammy's studio time in Nashville. It feels good to be in on the start of something special--and Bucky's musical journey is definitely that.

News post next--come right back!
