Really quick update, 7/18

Another great shot by DeniseBernadette--I couldn't resist. Click here to enjoy her gallery and/or grab prints and goodies. (Yes, this is still a non-profit blog--I just think her work is brilliant...)

A quick sweep around the scene for a Tuesday morning:

Tonight's Wilkes-Barre show is likely to be a hot one--there might be a few last-minute seats available, so click that link and try your luck! As for past shows, there's a mumble-worthy Hollywood Reporter review available as of yesterday--the irony of a very generic review ("karaoke"? Check. "Pop-Tarts/non-nutritious/fitting sponsor"? Check. "Overly familiar songs"? Check.) of an allegedly generic show was entirely lost on the people responsible. Alas...

If you'd like a bit more liveliness in your recaps, here's a great one--Bucky's "Special Mother" Tracey graciously shares the fun tale of her trip to NY with Bucky's wife Crystal at the official boards.

Congratulations to Bucky's fellow Idol (and duet partner) Kellie Pickler, who's been signed to Sony-BMG, with a possible single due sometime in September and a full CD in November. Bucky's mentioned at the end of the article...could there be another announcement or two before the end of the tour? Something tells me Bucky, Ace Young and Elliott Yamin and their fans will have something to celebrate before the tour bus pulls into Wilkes-Barre again for the very last stop. (When they said this was a truly exceptional Top Ten, they meant it. Has there been another year with so many contracts, so soon?)

And finally--bet you're not at all surprised--more photos! A bunch of cute group shots from the 7/13 and 7/14 New Jersey/New York shows were posted at Idolforums. And be sure to catch that sunny smile gracing Team Covington's front page. Enjoy!

(PC's coughing again, so I'll end here for now. Have a glorious Tuesday--see you soon!)

I hope Bucky, Ace and E get signed. I really like them. Just wondering how all these deals affect the "winner", Taylor Hicks. They are talking about this over at MJ's Big Blog and I was curious as to what you and other Bucky fans thought.

  2. Hi Anon, and thanks for stopping by!

    Pollyanna-ish tldr comments follow...

Can't speak for other Bucky fans, but I can definitely say that I think Taylor is terrific--killer voice and sensibilities, and very much beloved by some seriously devoted fans--so I don't think that other contestants' signings will affect his career much one way or the other. I guess I'm one of those "show's over, now the whole music market is the competition" kind of fan.

Bucky, Ace, Elliott and Taylor are all different sorts of artists with different (if sometimes overlapping) sorts of audiences. They're not competing with each other so much as they are with other artists in their respective genres.

As for the 19E marketing plan, well, that's another tale. Putting on a branding/marketing cap, the Idol franchise probably would be served best by walking a fine line between striking while the others they've signed are hot (and this year held so much talent!) and making sure that the winner of the title is properly celebrated. In that sense, it might be better if some of the others are signed and/or managed by labels/companies other than RCA and 19. It gets them into the "real world" mode faster, I think.

I am so not worried about Taylor--I honestly think he'll be fine and have a brilliant career. He's talented and smart--a good combination. As for Bucky? The same. Room for lots of great music in our hearts and on the charts...
