(May 23, 12:00PM ET) -- Sources revealed to TMZ details of Wednesday's night 'American Idol' finale. The show will feature songs by prolific composer Burt Bacharach, with Dionne Warwick performing her 80s hit, 'That's What Friends Are For.'Other Bacharach performances will include Bucky Covington's rendition of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," and Kevin Covais singing "What's New Pussycat."
I'll preface this by saying that I actually like both Burt Bacharach and B.J. Thomas, who recorded the hit version of "Raindrops", and I'm sure Bucky's going to do this song up proud. But even so...huh? Has no one at Idol ever heard "My Little Red Book", the rockin' little growly Bacharachian heartbreak song that Bucky's beautifully gravely, soulful voice could have knocked out of the flippin' park?
(I found two snippets at Barnes and Noble, which really don't do the song any justice at all--it's much better in its entirety. The Love version is the fiercest, but we're betting Idol would have gone with the smoother Manfred Mann arrangement. Alas, 'twas not to be.)
Anyway, I'm just incredibly glad he'll be singing to us tomorrow, rain or shine--heaven knows it's been far too long. But goodness--talk about a missed opportunity! (Idol really needs an oldies
In other news--more tour dates! (These Idols are going to need about a year off to recover--talk about a packed schedule...) Here's the latest Ticketmaster list; the official site hasn't been updated as of this post, but that may have changed by the time you read this.
And it's showtime! Look for Mr. and Mrs. Covington in the audience tonight. See you later!
