A little more observation...

On their way to better things: Bucky Covington and Chris Daughtry, 4/06I'm going to break from the usual "no comment" mode on post Idol-boot Thursdays, simply because rockers Bucky Covington and Chris Daughtry have so many fans in common (including my best offline bud, who is feeling as shellshocked as we felt last month), and say this--both of these talented Southern gentlemen have very bright futures, Idol or not. Just watch...

(Edited to add: Well, that didn't take very long, did it?)

It's a very quiet day, but there are a few interesting links here and there:

One of the favorite questions for fans of up-and-coming singers like Bucky is the enjoyable "if he could record any song in the world, what would you have him sing?" A thread along those lines is in progress now at the official boards, and if you'd like to jump in there (or here in comments, for that matter), feel free. This should be a very revealing list--Bucky's Southern rock and country talents both got some fine exposure on Idol, and it'll be fun to see which genre pops up most in the replies...

The season finale (with Bucky singing on live television again--yes!) is now less than two weeks away. If you're only an occasional Idol watcher and you're not sure what to expect, here's the Google cache of the witty folks from Rickey.org discussing the last finale show. (A favorite observation: "The problem I have with each AI season is that they do nothing but stall until 9:55 pm and by then everyone acts like they are on the edge and are about to fall off.") PG-13 language warning, but it's a fun thread. And we still can't be sure what to expect from this year's finale, except that it will be a) full of filler, b) cheesy as all get out and c) worth watching to catch Bucky doing what he does best...

You know, the temptation to expand this post later with "what should Bucky sing" cover-tunes will be way too difficult to resist--if you have any song suggestions, please comment, and the list will be posted later tonight. Bet the choices will be a bit different from those on the official boards--just a hunch.

More later--here's hoping some "real good" news is on the way...

  3. Hee!

(Dina is my neighbor, y'all--she lives close enough to know firsthand about wnat many have termed my "unfortunate oldies problem." Yes...I have been known to crank up some Grand Funk on occasion! I confess! Laugh...oh, wait--don't...)

Yes, yes--I admit it, fine, he'd kill on "Bad Time", and you know he would. I can come up with about 78,036 good ol' tunes I'd live to hear Bucky sing. I really like the couple of originals at his official site, too--more of those, and then maybe spice it up with some well-selected covers...

Chan, I'd love to hear all three of those. Bucky's voice really lends itself well to delicately rough-edged, subtle heartbreak songs. Those would definitely work.
