The Richmond County Daily Journal has the hometown reaction to yesterday's events, along with messages of love and support from around the country and some kind words from Bucky's gracious family:
Bucky's mother Debbie has posted a message at the official boards, too--be sure to head over there and join the chorus of appreciation.
Theresa “Mama Tee” Dunn, who is Rocky’s mother-in-law and the woman behind Bucky Covington Online, posted a message to all of Bucky’s fans on the “American Idol” chat boards.
“I want to thank each and everyone of you who have dedicated these past few months to supporting our ‘Idol’ and for dialing those digits every week,” she wrote. “Our journey is not over, it is just beginning. Yes, there is the tour and the next year with ‘American Idol,’ but then I think a bigger success is in store for Bucky Covington.
“His dream will be realized in a much bigger way. There is the CD for the twins to make — ‘Sweet Tea & Biscuits’ and ‘Double Vision.’ You have not heard the last of him. We look forward to meeting everyone at the tour this year.
“Well, I guess my Hollywood trip for next week is canceled. I am saddened at the moment and I know good things await on the horizon, but just for the moment I am going to give in to my emotions. The love you have shown all of us has been very heartfelt and we are humbled by the generosity bestowed upon us all.
“We hope you will continue to e-mail us at the Web site and we look forward to hearing from you. I hope you will understand if we take a day or two to answer.
“Again, a very personal thank you to everyone here who have been a part of our ‘Bucky Family.’”
And here's an important thread to bookmark--the fans at the Fox boards are keeping track of Bucky's post Idol TV appearances, which will probably include the Jimmy Kimmel, Regis & Kelly (on Monday) and Ellen shows, among others. (One fan mentioned that Bucky was on this morning's Fox News--read this, and get ready to smile.) As news comes in about where Bucky will be appearing, we'll post it here as well. (Edited to add a list from IDF: "American Idol Extra [FOX Reality Channel 6:30PM] , Jay Leno [NBC 11:35PM]".) We'll keep up with this all day today.
As for Bucky's musical future? Well, the shouts on the message boards are loud and clear and unmistakable--we want a CD. We're not sure about the contractual time frames and limits for a contestant who finishes in Bucky's spot, but we think this very informative article on Idol contestant turned successful recording artist Josh Gracin could hold some excellent clues as to how Bucky will make the transition. (Notice, too, the involvement of Rascal Flatts, who gave Bucky a great shout-out on The View a little while back. )
We're thinking positive over here. It really is just the beginning.
Back later today with as much news as we can find...
I like Bucky. I wish him well. : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Buckymania! I am thrilled to see that I can still catch a minor "Bucky dose" on tv for a bit, and then wait for his CD...
ReplyDeleteAfter sleeping on it, you are right, this is not the end, but rather the beginning....he got himself into the spotlight, and now it is up to us, his fans to keep him there. Thanks for keeping the blog going, even if I can catch him twice a week on the tv, I can still catch him more like 7 times a week here...
Thanks!
edit,
ReplyDeleteeven if I CANNOT catch him twice a week...
Hey here is a link to Bucky on Fox5 in Atlanta this morning. It is a downoad site but I downloaded and it is fine. Such a sweet interview and he mentions the AI board fans and all the fansites.

Thanks, Marsha and anon-10:52! I'm going to try to keep up with as much news as I can. And Kathy, thanks for the link--I can't wait to see that!
ReplyDeleteSure hope it does. You and I are in the same boat...I don't get Fox Reality either, but it's a safe bet to turn up somewhere. (If I hear anything about it being available online, I'll post the info--really want to see what he had to say...)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your wonderful blog. I must have checked it 50 times a day while going through my own Buckymania. Now that this part of the story is over, I feel a strange mixture of sadness and relief. I'm sad because I won't get my weekly fix of Bucky on TV and relief that I don't have to go through the torment of every result show. As a 50 yar old woman I feel like I reverted to some strange teenage crush state and none of my firends quite understtod why this skinny, sweeet natured boy from Rockingham became the object of my desire. I don't think I've ever encountered someone on five seasons of idol who consistently stayed true to himself, took all the non stop slings and arrows of Simon' and the media's scorn with such good natured grace and charm. I loved watching him "learn and grow", to see him go from the awkward, raw "Simple Man" to the polished, soulful performer of "Best I Ever Had". I want more than anything to see Bucky to continue to make music and live his dreams and I just have to believe that we have not heard the last of this real good man..
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for being the source of all things Bucky.
Carol from Brooklyn
Carol, thank you for that lovely heartfelt post. And Jeena, you and I are sharing that same strong feeling!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the mixed-blessing nature of this week's happenings--I'm so going to miss having those Tuesday performances to look forward to, but really, this just gets the second part of Bucky's journey started that much sooner.
He is such a warmhearted, hardworking entertainer--and he was able to remain so even with all the cheesy, sadistic nonsense Idol sometimes dishes out, which makes it all the more remarkable. I'm with you both--he really deserves a high five for the way he's grown and blossomed these past weeks. Another blogger said that Bucky's "Best I Ever Had" moved her and her husband to tears--if that doesn't underscore how far he's come...
With that hardworking attitude, and with all this love and respect and fondness he's generated just about everywhere, I have a feeling I'm going to be blogging about Bucky Covington for the long haul.
As for the tour...I haven't been to one of those cheesefests since the second season group hit the road, but you just know that Bucky, without judges and with more than 1:30 to get a song across, is going to be amazing live. I'm fully expecting several of the nastier entertainment writers out there to have to eat their words this summer.
It's late and I'm rambling (and laughing at myself), but you're both so right. I think we're all eager to see him live his dream--and with so much love and affection and support in his corner, he's well on his way, Idol or not.
