April foolishness

Honestly...every day is April Fool's Day on the internet, isn't it? Even so, today it's wise to believe half (or less) of what you hear. So far this 4/1, everything from the revival of the "Bucky is British" silliness to the the faux-privatization of an entire board has happened, and it isn't even noon here! We'll play it very safe today and give you a few professional-media news links...

From the Richmond County Daily Journal comes word that the American Idol cameras will be taping some hometown footage today:

The taping will start at 11 a.m. at Covington’s Body Shop, which is owned by Gene Covington. Covington’s son, Bucky, has made “Idol’s” top nine and clinched a spot on the national tour. Bucky and his twin brother, Rocky, both work at the body shop.
The crew will be interviewing co-workers and trying to get a feel for what Bucky’s life was like before the 28-year-old singing sensation became a national phenomenon.
“Fans are welcome to come show their support,” said Theresa Dunn, Rocky’s mother-in-law.
And there are also some helpful voting tips, which we're very happy to share:

During Bucky’s performance, a toll-free 866 number will appear at the bottom of the screen. Write this number down or program it into your phone. As soon as the credits begin rolling on Tuesday’s show, fans can start calling in their votes.

You may get busy signals. You can vote as many times as you wish during the two-hour call-in period. A successful vote receives a recorded message saying “Thank you for voting for contestant number ... .”

You don’t have to listen to the entire message. As soon as you hear “thank you,” you can hang up and dial again.

“Remember, the phone lines are open for two hours,” Dunn said. “Please vote the entire two hours. Switch hands if you have to, and be sure your cell phones and cordless phones are charged all the way up.”
Now, the Buckymania blog does not endorse gambling--and we think betting on Idol is even more precarious than most gambling, for reasons we'll get into in our next post. But in the meantime, it's interesting to see how the odds have shifted since the last time we linked to the Pinnacle charts.

A very curious blast from the past--remember when a widely-read writer had this to say about Bucky's voice? (I didn't see last season's Idol competition, so I can't agree or disagree with the gist of it...but it's intriguing in light of current events.)

We'll be back later on today with more ramblings. Enjoy your Saturday!

  2. Hello hello! :) Actually, it was a parody blog--probably still online out there somewhere. The joke--not a fact-- was that Bucky was a British student dropped into the contest by the producers to prove something or other. This is not true, just to make it clear. Bucky's the Rockingham guy he says he is. Internet silliness, but appropriate for the day, I guess...
