Bucky Covington sings "I'll Walk" while fans snap photos at the Greeley Stampede; photo by the very kind Judy Lang. Thanks again to Judy for her great shots!Bucky Covington and his excellent band begin their California nights in historic Bakersfield, where they'll grace the stage at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace at 7:30 pm tonight. (Note: KUZZ just posted via Twitter that some good seats are now available. Buy your last-minute tickets online at Vallitix, or call (661) 326-7560 for info--and if you're going, have a terrific time!)
Yesterday's morning update featured a quick list of Bucky's California stops, and both Buckytown USA and Bucky Covington's official site have all the tour info you'll need. Get to a show, y'all--these guys rock.
Bucky's also rockin' your radio, where the charts are a bit misleading at first glance. Due to a cavalcade of country superstars releasing new singles in the past two weeks, "I Want My Life Back" [hear Bucky Covington's new single at his MySpace] went from #34 last week to #37 this week on Billboard's Hot Country Songs--but it still has a bullet, which means Bucky's tune is still climbing! Confusing? A little, but in short form, all it means is that established country stars get their songs added to radio playlists a bit faster than new artists do--so those of us supporting the up-and-coming stars get a lesson in patience and persistence. We'll keep on requesting. (Thanks to Diver for the Billboard news.)
The same pole-vaulting is happening at Mediabase, where "I Want My Life Back" starts the day at #35--with a bullet--and at USAToday's Idol Chatter blog, Brian Mansfield lists the song at #17 on this week's Idol airplay chart.
A quick reminder--Bucky hit the #1 spot on WKML's "Top 5 at 6" last night, and we'd all love to see that streak continue! Write to WKML's very kind Larry K at country@wkml.com, and let your local country station know you'd like to hear Bucky today, too. (Yes, we can overcome "PolevaultFest '09" on the charts, y'all--slow and steady wins the race...)
Finally, a little video break to add some fireworks to your mid-morning--literally. The talented Weezey610 enjoyed Bucky and his band at the Greeley Stampede on the Fourth of July, and she posted this very cool photo/video montage from the night at YouTube. Many thanks to her for sharing this one--enjoy! Have a lovely Thursday--Winnie

Thanks for your comforting words through the storms of country charts. Sometimes I feel very alone in this journey.
ReplyDeleteAnon, don't feel alone! Chartwatching can be absolute torture sometimes...you have plenty of company, believe me. But Bucky's big picture is so bright and he and the band are working so incredibly hard that a few chart glitches can safely be filed under the general category of "new artist dues-paying". He's definitely gonna get where he's going, and it'll be a fun (though occasionally bumpy) ride!
ReplyDelete(And yep, that 20/30-year-plus career plan still seems entirely plausible from here...)
