Another great shot by Beesims--here's Bucky Covington on stage in Wallingford, Connecticut. You can enjoy more of her beautiful photos at Flickr today. Thanks again, Beesims!
Tonight's the night! Bucky Covington will be part of this evening's American Idol results show via the magic of film, and we couldn't be more excited. Here's a bit from the official press release about this evening's show:
American Idol takes a trip to Tennessee this week as the top rated show catches up with several of its favorite former finalists. Airing Wednesday, April 2nd at 9:00pm EDT on FOX, Bucky Covington will return to American Idol in a taped interview from his new hometown of Nashville , Tennessee where he updates the show's 30 million viewers on the latest happenings since competing on season five, including the release of his debut CD. The segment also features fellow AI alums Phil Stacey and Bo Bice.
In the same week that Bucky returns to "American Idol" he is also excited to celebrate his second consecutive top 10 hit as "It's Good To Be Us" jumps four spots to #9 on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart. The song's music video includes a cameo by freestyle motocross champion Cowboy Kenny Bartram and is currently on CMT and GAC's Top 20 countdown shows.
(Edited again, since this post seems to be coming up in search engines for "who left the show tonight" queries--we wish Ramiele Malubay all the best. Thanks!)Bucky on American Idol, April 2006. (Photo: Fox)
Unofficially, Bucky and his fans have been handed a truly golden opportunity. With 30 million people watching him on national TV tonight--country fans and others, longtime Idol watchers and those who are seeing him for the very first time ever--there has never been a better time to give "It's Good to Be Us" a boost, and to increase his chances of taking that 2008 CMT Music Awards belt buckle trophy home.
Bucky will be fresh in the minds of 30 million people. Thirty million people, including DJs who'll be chatting about Idol tonight and on tomorrow's morning shows; 30 million people, including friends, family and coworkers who'll know exactly who you're talking about when you say "Bucky Covington is up for a CMT Music Award this year" over coffee on Thursday morning, even if they don't follow country music news.
You and I both know how good we Bucky Covington supporters are at pouncing on golden opportunities. (Hey, if Bucky hadn't pounced on that golden opportunity to audition for American Idol, you wouldn't be reading this!) Tonight, after the show, please call your local country station to request "It's Good to Be Us"; and email your whole address book and ask them to register at CMT and vote for Bucky's "A Different World while Bucky's still fresh in their minds. (Don't worry about that freshness bit--Bucky will take care of that part with ease. It's a given that he'll charm the heck out of everyone watching...)
And if you need even more inspiration, keep in mind that it isn't just Bucky who appreciates our efforts. Those who've been to the recent meet and greets know how truly gracious and kind Bucky is to his supportive fans, but we don't often have a chance to talk to the songwriters. Guess what--they're gracious and kind and appreciative, too! (Birds of a feather do flock together, especially in Nashville.) Tim James, who co-wrote "It's Good to Be Us" with Dave Berg, took the time out from his busy schedule to send this lovely note to Buckymania (and to all of us):Just wanted to take a minute and tell you guys how much Dave and I appreciate your efforts to get "It's Good To Be Us" on up the charts. If you all continue to request and push, we could see Bucky in the top spot! It will take alot of effort but from what I have seen on this site, his fans are devoted and true. Once again, thanks for all you do.
("Devoted and true"--sounds like he's absolutely got us pegged. Thank you, Mr. James, for writing to all of us--and for co-writing such a fantastic song for Bucky.)
Here's a very quick look at the rest of what's happening...
Blair Garner's post-CRS Disco Party is a hot annual Nashville tradition, and Bucky Covington made it even hotter with his wild rendition of "Superstition", complete with the Bucky Slide, y'all. Huge mega-thanks to Buckymouse for capturing this exceedingly rare (and terrific) footage and making it into a beautiful montage. (If you loved this one too, let her know over at YouTube today.) Enjoy!
Chart news: The expected second "superstar polevault" has happened, and Bucky's "It's Good to Be Us" is now #11 on both the Mediabase weighted and Top 500 charts. Between tonight's show jogging some memories and the power of a lot of requests, we're expecing those bullets to get plumper as the week goes on...
Upcoming shows: The Coshocton Tribune is celebrating the announcement of Bucky's return to the area this summer; he and his excellent band will perform at the 2008 Perry County Fair at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 18. Tickets can be purchased the day of the performance--general fair admission is $7, track seats are $5 and grandstand seating is free. Have fun!
Dierks Bentley's Throttle Wide Open tour resumes tomorrow with a show in Jackson, Tennessee (tickets at the City of Jackson site) and Dierks, Bucky and Luke Bryan will rock the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, April 4th ( tickets at Ticketmaster). The touring week winds up on Saturday, April 5 at the Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas; get your ticket here and join the party!
On the tube and around the net: The Covington Times features a cute Wallingford concert shot by Beesims today, along with a fun Rocky Covington portrait and a fun blast from the past look back at Idol's "country week". Midask9's It's Good to Be Us blog pays a sweet tribute to Claudette Goldberg Yamin, Elliott Yamin's beloved mother, who passed away on Monday, and we'd like to offer our condolences to Elliott and his family, as well.
Finally, be sure to stop in at Country's Chatter and catch up with one of Bucky's earliest celebrity supporters during his Idol days--Carrie Underwood--and with Ronnie Milsap and new artist Nick Nicholson, too.
Vote for Bucky: We'll wrap it up for now with the good old voting links-- "It's Good to Be Us" is always ready for our applause! Give Bucky a hand at GAC Top 20 Country Countdown and at CMT's Top 20 Countdown.
We'll have another countdown post about the 2008 CMT Music Awards late night tonight, but with the days left to vote now in single digit territory, every minute counts--so hurry! Register at CMT and vote now---and recruit as many friends, co-workers and neighbors as you can...More very soon!--Winnie
