Happy Anniversary, "Bucky Covington"!

American Idol" season five eighth-place finalist Bucky Covington's self-titled Lyric Street debut starts at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums with 61,000 units. On the latter chart, it's the biggest start by a new male artist since Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" debuted with 90,000 in 1992. (Billboard , April 25, 2007)

One year ago today, CD retailers around the country might have noted an increase in the number of eager, happy country fans popping in--and as we walked out with our very own copies of Bucky Covington, we were unaware that we were creating a bit of country-chart history. Bucky, Mark Miller, and an incredible array of songwriters, musicians, record-label visionaries and more joined forces to give us the CD we'd been dreaming of since the first moment we heard Bucky's distinctively tough-and-tender voice.

Sometimes an album is much more than just an album...it's a culmination of a lot of well-chased (and quite thoroughly caught) dreams. Bucky chased that dream for a long time, and once we were introduced to him via Idol, we joined the chase with enthusiasm. (Remember the CD-cover "un-contest" back on September of 2006? Yep, I think it's safe to say we really wanted this to happen...)

Fast forward to the here and now--three major tours, two hit singles so far, and one #1 album--and we're celebrating Bucky's first year as a Nashville recording artist by gearing up to support and applaud his third hit single-to-be, "I'll Walk". Things haven't been the same in our collective musical world since April 17th, 2007--and the road ahead is looking just as exciting as the territory in our rear view mirror.

Congratulations, Bucky, and thanks for the first of a long line of hit albums. We'll see you on the road!
