CMT Music Awards: Red Carpet time! (7 p.m. ET)

Bucky Covington and Don Medlock in concert during Bucky's summer tour; photo by the very kind Happydays. Thanks, Happy!

Turn on your TV, or surf over to CMT.com's video stream right this minute--the red carpet (actually a purple carpet, but why quibble?) is in progress now. Jason Aldean and LeAnn Rimes have already chatted with hosts Lance Smith and Katie Cook, and there'll be lost more glamour on the way. (The CMT Music Awards online photo gallery, Wire Image and Getty Pictures might have some photos up by the time you read this; Bucky Covington was one of the stars flashed posing for the cameras as the commercial break ended.) Stay tuned...

Edited--Bucky's performing listed as "appearing" on the show. During the "CMT Outsider" segment before the ceremonies, he was shown rehearsing "A Different World", so we're not sure what's up!

Okay, mystery solved! Bucky performed a bit of "A Different World" on a separate "Nationwide Stage" at about 15 minutes into the show, to lead into the first commercial break. (If you're out West, be sure to tune in early!) More in a bit...

(Spoiler in comments--DON'T CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW, y'all!)

Edited again to add links to red carpet photos at FilmMagic, Wire Image and Getty Images.

Yep, it's another edit! CMT's red carpet photos (including Bucky) are being posted here, and there's a full list of winners behind this link.

From tonight's live blog at CMT.com:

6:38 -- We just found Bucky Covington. A hot new star who wants to send a hot message to all his friends. "Okay, lets see here... Hey for all my fans out there on tonight's performance pay attention to the guitar and thanks! Ya'll Rock!

You might have recognized that particular instrument--it was the Redneck Guitar presented to Bucky by some very generous fans during the Raisin the Bar tour in Baltimore. What a sweet gesture! You rock, too, Bucky.

Last edit of the night--I think!--via the very kind Buckyflowers. Click here to see a screenshot and video of Bucky and his Redneck Guitar performing part of "A Different World" on the Nationwide Stage at the 2008 CMT Music Awards, courtesy of Rickey.org. Thanks so much, Buckyflowers!

Congrats to Kellie Pickler, this year's Breakthrough Award winner! The show rolls on, and we'll be back with a post-awards wrap-up later.

    (Sigh. Next year, y'all...)

    Bucky was ROBBED!
A few lines of ADW? ? What's up with that? And you couldn't even hear HIM, with the background singers so loud!

And how could he lose to something that was not even a breakthrough video?

Now that he's past that category, next year he'll just have to win male video of the year!

I thought Bucky got a lot of face time. Flash at the beginning, baby interview, 20 sec of ADW, another flash talking (but we could not hear) and nice shot of him singing at the end. Hoping he was going to present but alas, guess the Tenneseean had that wrong. But, they did show him lots! and he looked fantastic!

breakthrough video means video from 1st album, doesnt mean st video. He could still qualify for next year with "I'LL WALK" or B & B or who knows what other ones from debut album they will release. I hope they release them all as singles with videos because they are all that good!! Go Bucky!!

  10. Hello, all--sure wish we could be celebrating a belt buckle tonight, but I have a feeling there's quite a party going on in Music City even as we speak... ;)

    Anon 7:27, thanks! :)

Hi, 7:39--I agree, and they really could be sisters!

Hello there 7:43--I bet there will be some performance photos at CMT before too long, as well as lots more red carpet shots...

Hey, Anon 7:44! The mix sounded normal through my standard-issue built in TV speakers, but from what I am reading elsewhere the sound was a bit muddled on fancier stereo setups. That's a shame--I wish everyone could have heard him properly! From that short snippet, it sounded like he was in great voice. Male video for next year sounds great! :)

*Waves at 7:46--hi!* Yep, loved the face time--always want more, of course, but he did get a solid bit of exposure this evening.

7:48, howdy and I and so with you on the number of potential singles from the album--there are lots of videos to be made, and who knows what next year might bring!

I agree with anon 7:44. At first viewing I didn't hear it very well either, but I thought that it was just me. I went back to watch it over again and it's the same. Even the clip on rickey.org that you posted. I think what anon is trying to say is that you CAN hear him, but the background singers are too loud so you don't hear ENOUGH of him. And again, is it just me, or does anyone else think that he looks like he's in pain? Upon repeat watchings, you can see the clinching on the close ups.

Anon: 12:01am...sorry I just watched Rickey's video and I can hear him and he does not look like he is in pain. I saw no clinching but perhaps clinching is in the eye of the beholder.
