A tube alert, a CRS New Faces gallery, and a Saturday night reminder...

Bucky Covington on stage at the New Faces Showcase at CRS39; click here to see more great showcase photos by the very kind Happydays.

Kudos to Happydays for sharing these beautiful shots of Bucky Covington's performance at the CRS-39 New Faces showcase on Friday evening--she captured the night in incredible style. Thanks so much!

A "tube time" reminder--the 1/12 Grand Ole Opry Live show, featuring a slightly hoarse but very endearing Bucky Covington performance, airs on GAC in just a few moments at 8 p.m. ET. Reading this a little later? No worries...you'll find a list of repeat times right here.

Finally, it's evening here on the East Coast-- time for those great syndicated country radio shows to put the beat into your weekend fun. If you'd like Bucky's single to be a part of your Saturday night drive (or if you're snowed in and snuggling up with the radio!) , be sure to request "It's Good to Be Us" before you head out the door. Chances are good that either Lia, The Big Time with Whitney Allen, Danny Wright All Night , After Midnite or the Bo Reynolds Show are playing on your local country station now, or will be very soon--their sites all have handy contact information, and their shows reach the whole country. Let them know you're listening! (The recently retooled After Midnite site is so chock full of features that we missed the "Country Babes/Country Hunks" gallery in the center column, near the bottom--you'll see a familiar face in the "hunks" section...)

Have a great--and safe--Saturday night!

I read Happydays recap of the CRS show, and I really hope that the response from the audience isn't a reflection of things to come. This show is a 'make or break' for Bucky. And looking at mediabase today isn't making me feel good at all. I was hoping for IG2BU to atleast hit top 10. Its been on the charts for almost 30 weeks, its gonna start to fall anytime. Lets cross our fingers that 'I'll Walk' moves UP the charts faster than the last 2 songs have.

Sorry to bring my downer attitude but I just worry to much. I hope for more than what weve been getting.

Anon 5:40 - Where did you find the CRS recap?

  3. Hi, Anon 5:40 and 6:13:

6:13, hi there--Happydays' recap is on the official fan club boards--and with all due respect to Anon 5:40 (I have a lot of respect for you and I hope you know that!) I will have to say that "the response from the audience" didn't sound disastrous at all--it sounded like he was the new kid on the block who got a good reception while some other New Faces got a great reception...about like what you'd expect from an industry crowd dealing with:

Taylor Swift (#1 hits and magazine covers--album released in 2006)

Jake Owen (one top 10 hit, one top 20 hit, album released in 2006)

Jason Michael Carroll (two top 10 singles, album released February 2007)

Luke Bryan (wrote a 3-week #1 hit, "Good Directions" before his album was released in summer 2007)

And Bucky Covington--the newest kid on the block, hitwise, and one with a Idol predigree at that.

Yes, it's a fact of life that there are pecking orders. As much as we love Bucky, he's still proving himself to the industry--it's a process that doesn't happen overnight, but we can be extremely proud of his talent, his accomplishments, and of how hard he is working on his career. A "good" reception at the CRS New Faces show is a good thing.

The very fact that he was asked to be part of this showcase says a lot about the industry's opinion of his prospects--and that fact that the response was good (and from traveling people distracted by a snowstorm, no less) is a very postive sign. Did some get an even better response? Sounds like it. But for the new kid with the added "show me" pressure of coming from Idol, he is holding his own, beautifully. Really, he is!

Dierks didn't have to say the complimentary things he said about Bucky; Kix Brooks didn't have a gun to his head when he gave Bucky praise. His peers respect him, and he is pacing this thing for longevity, rather than a superstar summer and a long sad fadeout.

I hope I don't sound like I'm picking on you, 5:40--I totally respect your right to interpret Happydays' recap differently than I did. Yes, we'd love for the industry not to hold his newness and the Idol thing against him, and we'd love for all of his singles to hit the Top 10 quickly and stay a while! But all he and we can do is what we're doing now--he's working hard, perfecting his craft, and making friends and fans in and out of the industry; and we're requesting, voting and supporting him every step of the way.

After doing all we can do, it just takes faith. I can type all night, but in the end it's up to us as individuals whether or not to choose to keep the faith. It's human nature to always hope for more than what we've been getting--but what we've been getting so far is really something we can be proud of (and have fun with)--a talented and gracious star on the rise. (A slow rise is still a rise.) Can't beat that!

For the record, Bucky got a warm and good response. He was not dissed not did people walk out during his performnance or fail to clap or applaud. It was just that the others all got a better JMC and Luke only slightly better and Jake Owen-medium better and Taylor Swift way better. Hope that clarifies any different -interpretation of my recap.
