Sunday news: WKDF Birthday Bash today, CMT Music Awards update and more...

It's a quiet Sunday morning--but if you're in or near Nashville, it's the start of an exciting day of live country fun. Music City's "Awesome April" events begin with today's WKDF Birthday Bash at the Sommet Center; Randy Owen, Bucky Covington, Restless Heart, Lee Brice, Stephen Cochran, Marshal Reign and Trailer Choir will be on hand, and the show starts at 5:00 p.m. Central. We'll keep an eye out for photos and reports on the station's site tomorrow--stay tuned!

Bucky's also part of Awesome April's 2008 CMT Music Awards at the Curb Center on April 14th, of course. Tickets are still sold out at Ticketmaster, but if you joined Dierks Bentley's All Access fan club, you're in luck--according to Country Hound, Dierks' club is also giving away a pair of mosh-pit tickets! As with Bucky's fan club contest, the prize is tickets only--you'll have to provide your own transportation and accomodations. It would be "awesome" indeed to see some of Bucky's and Dierks' fans in that mosh pit, cheering them on!

Country Music Fans, Click to Vote for Your Favorite Artists & VideosOther ways to win: CMT's Garnier Nutrisse-sponsored Rising Stars Sweepstakes, with tickets to the awards and a makeover as first prize, is still taking entries until April 1, and if you're looking for some high quality souvenirs, Monsters and Critics are giving away a CMT Music Awards prize pack featuring an an iPod shuffle preloaded with songs nominated for a CMT Music Award, CMT Music Awards Hat, CMT Music Awards T-shirt and CMT Music Awards sunglasses for the grand prize winner. Have fun and good luck!

Of course, the biggest prize will be Bucky's big win for "A Different World" as the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year. USA Weekend has a story on the awards right here, with links to the voting.

(Edited to add a note from comments--looks like the article's in the print edition as well: "Hubby found Bucky in our Sunday paper this morning!! Check for the USA Weekend magazine insert in your local paper today. It has Matt Lauer on the cover. Page 9, Country Music, has box listing Breakthough Video nominees." Thanks, Anon!)

Keep in mind--the competition's fans are fierce and determined, too. Getting that belt-buckle trophy into Bucky's hands is 100% up to us, and we've simply got to be fiercer than our friendly and talented rivals. If anyone out there has been putting it off, procrastinate no longer, y'all! Vote, recruit your friends and every family member, add "Register at CMT.com and vote for Bucky Covington's "A Different World" in the 2008 CMT Music Awards!" to your message board and email signatures--whatever it takes. We can do this--'nuff said.

Just imagine the big smile on Bucky's face as he takes that stage and accepts his first major country music award...

After you've voted and/or rallied your friends and family, treat yourself to a stop at The Covington Times, where two beautiful photos by Rachel, some keen observations about the official boards and some wonderful bits of Covington history await you; and check out that stunning Poughkeepsie concert photo at Midask9's It's Good to Be Us today, too.

Bucky's next "It's Good to Be Us" quiz question will be posted at his MySpace blog at 4 p.m today. Get the details on the contest in this post, then stand by for your chance to qualify and win. The last airing of this week's CMT Top 20 Countdown happens today at 11:00 a.m ET., but feel free to check out Bucky's video online any time at CMT.com.
