Tuesday news: Power Picks today, Bucky and Tracy meet again, a wild ride on the charts and more...

Bucky Covington, up close and personal at the Glass Cactus in Grapevine, Texas, 1/19; photo by the very generous AmaTexMom. Thanks so much for sharing the fun! You can see more of her beautiful photos at her site, BuckyFanPics.

An update on today's Power Picks video challenge: looks like we gave our talented opponent a run for her money, but when the smoke cleared, Taylor Swfit's "Our Song" was the winner. (I voted while away from the TV set and missed the percentages, but someone might have the final numbers...) Thanks to all who joined in the fun...and stay tuned for more Power Picks match-ups soon! (Thanks to Moon for the news.)

The quiet continues for a little while longer, but on 2/28, Bucky Covington and his excellent band resume their tour with Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, Indiana, and things should get loud and lovely! Tickets are available now at the Morris Box Office, Supersounds Catalog Center inside TG Music, Goshen IN, by calling (800) 537-6415 or (574) 235-9190, or online at morriscenter.org

After that, the Throttle Wide Open tour heads to Missouri for a concert at the Farmington Civic Center on Friday, 2/29. Snag your ticket for the party at Ticketmaster soon...production-hold seats might be released any time now, and you could get a very pleasant surprise...

And there's a little advance notice about an autumn date with another country hitmaker at the Hillsdale (MI) County Fair site today--Bucky will be opening the show for Tracy Lawrence there on September 27th. Yep, that's pretty far away--but the on-sale date for those tickets is March 4th at 8AM local time, and we didn't want Bucky's loyal Michigan fans to miss out! You can get your tickets at the Hillsdale County Fair Box Office, by phone from Star Tickets Plus at 1-800-585-3737, or at all Star Tickets Plus Outlets including all Michigan Meijer stores.

Here's the rest of what's happening:

Chart news: the dreaded "superstar bump" has befallen "It's Good to Be Us" again today; it currently stands at #17 on the Mediabase weighted chart and #16 on the Top 500. It's a battleground out there! The good news is that the bullets are still present and plump--it'd be nice to see them get a good deal plumper, too. Keep requesting! This is a blip in what's bound to be a wild chart week, but we are so up for the challenge...

Upcoming shows: Tickets for most of Dierks Bentley's Throttle Wide Open dates (featuring special guests Bucky Covington and Luke Bryan) are available now at Ticketmaster--check Dierks.com for details on non-Ticketmaster events. Seats for the Jackson, TN Dierks Bentley concert on April 3rd are available at the City of Jackson site.

Finally, Bucky and his labelmate Trent Tomlinson have a lot of mutual fans, which makes the latest Opry-related post at the Erwin Record's Country's Chatter blog a must-see. (Check out that closeup!) Bucky's not on the current Opry performance schedule, but he will be part of RFD-TV's new edition of the Crook & Chase Show on March 4th--and you can be part of it, too. The Opryland Hotel site has more details about the show taping--if you'll be in Nashville, be there to cheer for Bucky...

Those final-round nominees for the 2008 CMT Music Awards will be announced on March 6th--we'll find out then whether or not Bucky made it through to round two. Huge and hearty thanks to everyone who participated! For now, we'll close today's post with some video voting goodness--give Bucky's "It's Good to Be Us" some affection at GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown, at CMT's Top 20 Countdown and CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack.

More soon--have a terrific Tuesday!

  2. Thank you, Moon! Very kind of you to post an update--I was away from the TV and couldn't see the percentages, but from the buzz online it sounds like we put up a pretty good fight. Next one's ours! :)

I so agree with the comments made at The Covington Times. It is so disheartening to go to BCO and instead of talk and sites to request for Bucky's song "It's Good To Be Us", you see games at the very top, as well as a whole thread pushing for the support of another artist ...this is on Bucky's Fan site!!!!What in the world is going on??. In the meantime, the single is being jumped over by superstars. It is hard for me to believe if someone has actually been in the presence of Bucky Covington, has put there arm around him and has looked him in the eye as he put his arm around you for a picture, that they can in all good conscience use his fan site to promote another
    artist.

  4. Hello, Anon 1:13--sorry I missed you today! It was pretty wild here (including a snowstorm--brr!)

I'm not on the boards at BCO much, so it wouldn't be fair for me to throw my 2 cents in about the threads there. But in general, the active fans--the ones who'd check out this site, join the fan club and create other fan sites--are really the "first line of attack", so to speak (that sounds so martial--sorry!)
when it comes to things like requesting and voting. It's always wonderful when casual fans join us on the request lines and at CMT and GAC, but that's never a given.

There's a definite balancing act in progress--and in that sense, it's just like the rest of life. Bucky--and the band!--work hard at what they do, and the hard work is paying off, but it's also clear that he truly enjoys what he's doing up on that stage. (And the fun he's having up there makes it all the more fun for us in the audience!)

As supportive and active fans, we've got that same work/play balance to think about...you never want it to get to the point where it's all tasks and lists and must-dos and no fun, but we do want to take any and every opportunity we have as fans to help promote our favorite new country artist, so that he and we have years of those sweet "play" moments at the live shows and on radio and TV.

Between Bucky's dedication and hard work, the excellent band and road crew he's got working with him, the talented professionals at Lyric Street, 0-Seven and MSN, amazing songwriters and producers, wonderful radio people and committed, fun-loving fans like us, I think he's poised to do amazingly well, no matter what is or isn't happening on the message boards at any given time.

Just like the maddening charts right now (arrgh!) fluctuation--especially when it comes to work and play balance--is inevitable on boards. But keep the faith--when it comes down to it, we do seem to get the job done!

Thank you for your fair and balanced reply. I think the chart fluctuation has gotten me down and overly sensitive. You are so right. We need all types of fans that bring all kinds of support for Bucky and the fan site should reflect that.

  6. Anon, I think you brought up some very good points, and goodness know I feel what you're feeling about the chart situation! It's truly nutty, that Mediabase back and forth dance--you're not alone!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your honest feelings and thoughts--I am a Pollyanna by nature but I don't think everyone has to be. It'd be boring if we were all thinking alike!
