Friday news: chart gains, headlines, and a bit of nostalgia...(updated--happy birthday, Aaron!)

Bucky Covington on stage in Allentown, 12/7; photo by our talented friend Aikenseeker, who had a fantastic time--thanks again for sharing this great shot! Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video for "It's Good to Be Us" is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear his music atCMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. A copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered at his official site or via his official fan club.

We'll start off with a reminder about that very hot poll at Bucky Covington's official MySpace blog: "Which song from Bucky Covington would you like to hear on your radio next?" Hop into the voting now--after your vote, you'll see exactly where your favorite album track stands. Have fun!

Bucky Covington is once again front page news at AmericanIdol.com, where his status as a favorite on so many critics' "best of 2007" lists gets an article of its own. Marnie, the witty resident blogger at AI.com, was inspired by Bucky's news, too--her "Top 10 Thursday" post asks readers to come up with some Idol-related country song titles, and the results are pretty creative...

Bucky's video for "A Different World" (and the long-standing connection between hit country music and an appreciative nationwide TV audience) are the topic of a long roundup article at the pop-culture focused Groovy Saturday's Retro Blog this morning. Bucky and his fellow country ex-Idols get another mention at the end:

Now that programming is fragmented into micro-niches, does TV still have the power to help make up-and-coming country stars into household names--even among those who don't neccessarily think of themselves as country fans? In the case of Bucky Covington (and his talented fellow Idol graduates Kellie Pickler, Josh Gracin and Idol winner Carrie Underwood), only time will tell, but it's sure looking like the answer is a qualified yes.

Disclaimer: the writing style may seem a little familiar. (Ahem.) Enjoy!

"It's Good to Be Us" is looking very good at Mediabase this morning; it's moved up again to #23 on both the weighted and Top 500 charts, with big, healthy bullets on both. The weekend brings those wonderful nationally syndicated country radio shows--perfect opportunities for a well-timed request. (Not to mention those "lunchtime cafe" hours and "Top X at X" countdowns coming up later today--no time like the present to ask for Bucky...)

Edited to add a sales update from a kind anon in comments: Bucky Covington, the CD,
has now sold about 316,000 copies to date. Nice going!

Check out Pure 12 Pack on CMT.com. See show times, episodes and vote on your favorite videos.Kathy at Team Covington has an excellent concert shot by Mary gracing her morning post, and she makes a good point about the importance of Bucky's new video, too. As she mentioned, many new listeners (and potential new fans), see the video for a rising song before they hear it on the radio. Both TV and radio play a big part in getting Bucky's talents out there for the world to enjoy--watch Bucky's video at CMT, and vote for "It's Good to Be Us" at GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown, CMT's Top 20 Countdown and CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack.

We'll close for now with a quick reminder about that "favorite American Idol album of 2007" poll at Rickey.org and this week's Country Music song battle at About.com--both are still in progress and looking for your opinion.

T. you're right--looks like a happy dance! Thanks for your request. One of our favorite Bucky Covington portatits by Aaron Crisler, taken May 10th at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville; visit Music City Update for more of his beautiful work.

Edited again
to add a fun update (and a belated but heartfelt happy birthday) to one of our favorite pro photographers here at Buckymania-- Music City Update's Aaron Crisler turned 30 a few days ago, and Stephanie Langston of WKRN covered the happy occasion on her Steph In the City blog--feel free to add a comment and say happy birthday (or just leave him a big thanks for all the gorgeous photos!) He was also "spotted" over at Nashville Rage. Mr. Crisler's got his own site, too, if you'd like to check out more of that birthday bash....

More soon--have a fabulous Friday!

Bucky is AGAIN a no show on the CMT Top 20. Im not understanding why IG2BU is not making the countdown, Heck Dolly is on there and her song is not even in the top 40 on mediabase. And Faith Hill is on there with a song Ive never heard of. Im guessing its hopeless.
Anyone have any answers as to why, Id love to read em.....

  2. Anon, I'd love to know, too! It's a mystery to me...not sure how the factors are weighed there at all. I'm not going to give up hope--I'm guessing there have been some "late bloomers" on CMT's Top 20 before. ("Late Bloomers"-- songs that were charting well on radio for weeks and weks before they finally hit that countdown.)

I am with you--really want to see "It's Good to Be Us" on there soon!

LMBO at those funny names for potential country songs on AI today. Too funny. Remember, CMT Top 20 is not about radio position alone. It combines things such as CD sales, the number of posts on CMT Bucky Message board, the number of times his video is viewed on CMT, searches on CMT for Bucky, and maybe a few other things we do not even know about. Streaming the video over and over will help. Let's get cracking Buckaneers.
