Looking ahead to 2008, Bucky's busy schedule heats up with a double-duty stretch on January 12th--looks like he'll be signing autographs during the day in the Backstage Garage Pass fan-fair at the 2008 Sound and Speed event in Nashville (tickets available here) and singing that night at the Grand Ole Opry (get a ticket here--if you can!) Bucky's also one of the coming attractions advertised via a big, bright photo on the Opry's MySpace. (The Opry's MySpace was a surprise to me, too--but I added them as friends right away once I discovered it, and like Bucky's MySpace, it's sure to be a great source of up-to-date information.)
Bucky Covington shares a wave and a bright smile at the 2007 CMT Music Awards in Nashville. (Photo by Matt Huesmann for CMT)And for an even more long-range-- but very important-- bit of advance planning, February brings the first round of voting for the 2008 CMT Music Awards, held on April 14th at Nashville’s Curb Event Center. According to the channel's press release this week, the first round of nominees will be announced Tuesday, February 5 and fan voting will begin on CMT.com. There is not a font big enough to express how great it would be for Bucky to have a brand new belt buckle come April--hence the way ahead of time mention. For now, we'll just make a big, red circle around the first week of February on our Country Weekly Chevy calendars...
Speaking of Country Weekly, their reader survey is in full swing--scroll down to the "Tell Us What You Think" link on the front page and click it to get to the online poll. You'll find a question about new country artists you'd like to read more about, and Bucky's one of the answers--let them know you're enjoying seeing him on their pages, and we could see even more of him in '08!
You can see Bucky right now at CMT.com, where his video for "It's Good to Be Us" is streaming at CMT Loaded; check it out, then give it a round of applause at GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown, CMT's Top 20 Countdown and at CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack. (Voting for the latter starts up again today--it's a great way to show some unlimited affection...)On the radio, Bucky's showing some strong staying power--"It's Good to Be Us" holds firm at a bulleted #27 on both the weighted and Top 500 charts again today, but look who's right behind him! (Call, y'all!) "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", Bucky's fun holiday delight, moves up to #81 with a bullet on the weighted chart--and if you'd like to have it for keeps, download it as a digital single at WalMart Music, Yahoo Music or iTunes. Keep requesting Bucky at your favorite local or streaming country stations, and if your favorite station in any popular format has gone all-holiday, ask for Bucky's "Santa Claus" there, too. You might get a happy surprise through your speakers this weekend...
We'll wrap things up for now with a look back at some of the biggest milestones in Bucky's career to date, courtesy of the very kind Ogopogo ; she's posted an extensive list on the Bucky Covington Fan Thread at AmericanIdol.com that offers much food for thought. What an exciting journey it's been--and it's just beginning. Thanks, Ogopogo!
More soon--have a lovely Friday!
