Monday news: a little break, chartgazing and more...

Thanks, Danna!Bucky Covington hits a soulful note on stage at the Intersection in this great shot by the very kind Danna, who was there for Saturday night's Grand Rapids fun. Thanks so much for the beautiful photos, Danna! Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music videos for "It's Good to Be Us" and "A Different World" is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear his music at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. A copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered at his official site or via his official fan club.

There's an interesting quote from from Bucky Covington in this Access Hollywood blog post from a couple of days ago; several Idol notables were asked about this coming season's new rules, which will allow finalists to play their own instruments on stage for the first time. Bucky had some thoughts about the coming changes:

Season five contestant Bucky Covington told us he would have loved having his acoustic guitar with him: "That would have been awfully nice to have when you are up there. You got a lot of pressure on you already with Randy, Paula and Simon, 30 million people [watching]. If you just put a guitar on, it is a little something to hide behind. If you were sitting behind drums you would be even more comfortable because there is more in front of you - definitely a secret blanket. I think it will knock the edge off a little. So you might see some better performances earlier."

The article goes on to quote Bucky's friend Kellie Pickler, who feels it would be good to let the aspiring Idols sing their own compositions. (How much fun would it have been to hear and see Bucky singing and playing "Can't Be Wrong" or "I Found the One" on national television?)

You can hear and see Bucky singing his big hits "A Different World" and "It's Good to Be Us" on the Raisin' the Bar tour, of course. Bucky, Rocky, Don, Shaun and Hans are hitting an intimate stage near you, and tourmates Jason Michael Carroll and Cole Deggs & the Lonesome will all make your concert stop a night to remember. Here are the remaining dates on this exceedingly hot-ticket tour. (Word has it that several dates are close to selling out, so now's the time to snag your seat...)

Bucky will be busy with some terrific off-tour charity performances this week, as well--scroll down to Sunday's post for details on the Aiken/Augusta and Savannah guitar pulls and the WQDR Children's Promise Broadcast. (Bucky's Southern fans have multiple opportunities to do good and enjoy some beautiful live music this week--what could be sweeter?)

Bucky's still enjoying that delicious Top 30 spot on the Mediabase weighted chart. (That's the one that matters the most, y'all.) On the Top 500 rankings, he's at #31, with a bullet that looks alarmingly invisible--but we can change that! Keep requesting "It's Good to Be Us" at your favorite local or streaming country stations, keep voting in those all-important "Top X at X' countdowns, request Bucky on your favorite syndicated country radio show tonight, and give his exciting video some affection at GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown, at CMT's Top 20 Countdown and at CMT's Pure Country Pure 12-Pack, too.

We'll close for the time being with a few odds and ends:

Be sure to enter the Denny's sweepstakes now for a chance to win the gorgeous Grand Prize of an autographed guitar signed by Bucky, show tickets, airfare, a free hotel room and the chance to introduce Bucky on stage at an upcoming concert. Click here to find out more about the VIP Country Music Experience; the Denny's sweepstakes ends on 11/14, and we want to make sure you're entered to win!

Bucky's mentioned very briefly in Hazel Smith's delightful CMA overview in her latest Hot Dish column, but her biggest Lyric Street news isn't musical--yet. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Doug Howard (he is the senior VP of A&R at Lyric Street) on the birth of their baby girl, Gracelyn Ariel Howard. She shares a November 8th birthday with a couple of guys you might know...

Finally, we'll pause for a moment to honor--and thank--our veterans and service men and women today.

More very soon--have a magnificent Monday!

  1. I was just wondering about what he thought of the turn of events on Idol lol The first thing I thought was dang why could that not have been Bucky's season. That would have made a big difference in the perception of him I think. I have a friend in a band who is great to watch, but I cannot imagine him on stage with no guitar. Really changes things up.

  2. Kathy, you and me both--sure wish they'd come up with this idea earlier. I do remember a little buzz when he was shown playing guitar during the Kenny Rogers video intro on Country night back in season five. You are right, it would definitely have changed some perceptions.

I think his family's site for him was wonderful, and having those two originals online was a great thing, too--it really opened some eyes and ears to the fact that there was an interesting musical side to Bucky that Idol wasn't showing. But to have him play guitar and sing on TV back then would have been perfect.

I know you say don't be worried about the mediabase charts....But, ADW never lost its bullet on either chart this soon. Im a little concerned people are not taking to this song like they did ADW. So many people were able to relate to ADW. We can only request so much. I really want Bucky's 2nd single to make it to the top 10. He needs that if we want to see and increase on his sales as well.

  4. Hi, Anon! I wish I had some magic words to make the stress of watching chart fluctuations go away--unfortunately, I don't, but I will say that I think both the song and Bucky's long term career prospects are looking good, even if the charts drive us nuts now and then. (And they will! That's the nature of the music business.)

The only thing we can do is what we're doing now--responsibly requesting and enjoying watching Bucky's star rise. And I won't even add "have fun with this no matter what", because I know you know that I feel it's the wisest course to take after you've done all you can--Bucky's sure having fun, and I can't think of a better lead to follow!

  5. His family's site was what made me a Bucky fan. He sang the first week and there was something to his tone so I always google people on these shows, bands etc to see if I like their stuff. Found the website, heard Can't be wrong and Daughtry lost me forever... and my voting fingers lol

And I know anon! I always breathe in when I see a weird mediabase thing but I remember this happening to ADW a few times and me panicking and it bounced back. There are always fluctuations. Like someone under him gets a boost from a tv appearance etc. We'll get him back there!:)
