Saturday news: first word from Anderson, a GAC reminder and more...

Bucky Covington takes time out to sign an autograph for a very kind fan in Eldon, Iowa earlier this summer; click here to enjoy more great shots from that show, courtesy of Janie. (Thanks again, Janie!)

The Anderson Independent Mail has a first look at last night's Bucky Covington concert in their early Saturday online edition--sounds like he was quite the attraction, even with the threat of an approaching storm:

Not even the forces of nature can stop an "American Idol" star; at least they couldn’t stop Bucky Covington and the Nashville Stars on Friday.

Fans turned out by the thousands Friday night, brushing off the rain and ignoring the distant rumble of thunder, to catch a glimpse of Bucky Covington, the former "American Idol" star, and the Nashville Stars on stage at the William A. Floyd Amphitheater in Anderson. The concert was part of the first-ever Great Southeast BalloonFest.

And two local concertgoers had some very kind things to say before the show:

Elizabeth and Herb Elhers of Anderson said they also had the opportunity to see Mr. Covington on "American Idol."

“I really thought Bucky was a pretty good singer,” Mrs. Ehlers said. “He got really far in the competition, but I thought he was good enough to make it to the final pair.”

(Later in the article, Mrs. Ehlers adds, “I really hope after this show Bucky moves on to something bigger and better. He deserves it.” Sounds like he's a favorite there in Anderson already!)

Updated to add a little from the recap of a very generous fan who was at the show:

The ampitheater holds 15,000 people and has wonderful terraced grassy seating. Lot of people left when it started raining earlier but I think they all came back and more. Guessing at least 5,000 but could have been 6-7K also. While they cheered nicely for the Nashville Stars, the literally went wild and crazy for Bucky....men and women alike!

Ladies and gents, I have never seen him do more scooting, sliding and hip gyrations as he did tonight. Several new and HOT moves. He sure likes it on big stages!

He bounced around and headbanged and even put the mic toss back in. Rocky came out and sang the first verse of "Every Rose has its Thorn" with him and of course, the crowd had double the pleasure!!! At one point on another song (I think) Bucky let Ducky take over the lead and he sang back up for verse...that was sooo nice to share the moment!

A big thank-you to our gracious pen-pal for sharing her fantastic time! We'll be on the lookout for photos, recaps and more from the show; in the meantime, here's a quick look at where you can catch Bucky, Rocky, Don, Shaun and Hans tonight:

And here's an update on Bucky's hot new tune, "It's Good to Be Us", which moved up again overnight on the Mediabase charts--
it starts off Saturday morning at #66 on the Mediabase weighted chart and #64 on the Top 500. (If your country station is one of the growing number on spots on the dial giving Bucky some sweet pre-release airplay, give them some positive feedback via phone...)

Finally, a reminder about an upcoming TV event on GAC--mark your calendar for this one:

Riverfront Concert Series: Bucky Covington, Trent Tomlinson & Sarah Buxton

Blake Shelton hosts this 13-part series, featuring the hottest performances from the Nashville Riverfront Park stage at the 2007 CMA Music Festival. Taped in June, the enthusiastic crowd enjoys entertaining performances from both established artists and up-and-comers. Blake takes to the streets to interact with the fans, and performing artists talk about all the fun at this year’s Music Festival. In this episode Bucky Covington, Trent Tomlinson & Sarah Buxton take the stage!

The show first airs on September 6th at 8:30 p.m. ET, with lots of repeat airtimes--head over to GAC.com for the full list. (Thanks to Ann for the kind reminder.)

More soon--have a great Saturday--Winnie
