Bucky Covington in Blender (and a banner contest update)

Bucky Covington on stage in Verona, New York in July; photo by the very kind Janie, who graciously shared more of her great concert shots here. Thanks, Janie!

The online version of this month's Blender magazine features a story on the inaugural Idol Camp, which took place in New England this past summer; Bucky was one of the visiting Idol alumni, and the article contains a brief bit about his guest appearance and Q-and-A session with the aspiring young stars:

One of the most popular ex-Idols is Bucky Covington, the affable country singer who finished eighth in 2006. He’s at camp for a day, visiting classes, signing autographs and generally being adored. "I must have given about a thousand hugs," he says later. Dylan, a giddy 13-year-old farm boy from Ohio, seems particularly stoked: "We actually got to sing for somebody with a video on CMT!"

For the rest of the story, including more about Bucky's visit as well as an intriguing look into the ups and downs of Idol Camp, check out the two-page article on the site--and keep your eyes peeled for the October print issue of Blender, coming soon to a newsstand near you.

Edited to add a link to the just-posted banner contest semifinals at Bucky's official MySpace blog--15 beautiful fan-designed graphics await your votes, and the two banners with the most votes at midnight ET on September 30th will be the contest winners. (Both designers will receive autographed pictures--a fun way to say thank you...) Congratulations to the semifinalists! More soon--Winnie

Im not sure of where Bucky placed on the Country album chart, it only goes to #25. I do know Bucky fell 51 places on the All Genre chart. He sits at #181 (OUCH, YIKES) Its looking like it may be a fight for the Top selling New male artist, JMC sold more than Bucky this week and is in the top 25 top country album chart. I know there were not alot of units between Bucky and JMC. So who knows....I hope Lyric Street wakes up and realizes that selling Bucky's cd for 14.99 is a bit extreme..(eg..Taylor Swift is moving the units out at 7.99) Anyway Bucky took a huge hit in sales this week -21%, 274,000.

And I know its not for me to worry about, but I can't help it.

Anon...4:54...I worry with you. It seems JMC has really had a jump since it was announced he would be touring with Bucky on the Raisin' the Bar tour. I was hoping the publicity would be beneficial for Bucky as well.

oh my, this ride ain't through yet....i have it on good faith that there are yet more goodies to come from this CD! when the "ig2bu" video hits the tube we'll see a nice improvement.

  6. Thanks, Buckyflowers, Anons and Unknown...

Buckyflowers, that is a nice jump--I have a feeling local stations are a bit more confident about the new song, since the first was a slow burning but long lasting hit with radio listeners (and still is getting much airplay in lots of places--it's a top recurrent now!)

Anon 4:54 and 6:16, you'll probably be totally not surprised that I am going to agree with Unknown on this--Bucky Covington, the CD is leggy and lookin' fine long term. Jason Michael Carroll has an excellent second single that came out a while back and is now in the Top 15 (congrats to JMC and his fans!); Bucky's second single will give his album a similar bump down the road, when it reaches that mass on radio. That's just the nature of the charts...so take heart.

And yes, we've also got a new video in our future--"A Different World" sure got a boost when Bucky started strollin' in the sunshine on CMT. Not to mention all the excellent future singles on the album! (If "Hometown" isn't a huge radio hit, I'll eat my straw cowgirl hat with a side of fries.) I know chart drops are no fun (at all!) but the big picture looks very bright indeed, even with the occasional speedbump.

We have a lot to smile about, long term and short term, with all these fantastic shows ahead and a CD chock full of potential hits on the shelves. Bucky is doin' just great.

(And Unknown, you might as well sign up and take the plunge... :)
