Bucky Covington's first single is also his first Top Ten...

Click to visit the Fox and Friends siteA bit of news via Lyric Street--even celebrities suffer the lost-luggage blues, but a Top Ten single tends to take a bit of the sting away. Congrats, Bucky!

Nashville, TN
; July 9, 2007 --Bucky Covington hit another career milestone this week as his first single "A Different World" cracks the Top 10 on country radio, delivering the country singer his first Top 10 hit. The song is currently reaching a weekly audience of 21 million listeners.

The good news of Bucky's first top 10 radio hit comes following a weekend of travel woes for the singer. It all started last Thursday when Bucky and his band, including twin brother Rocky, flew from Las Vegas to New York City following a show on Independence Day. After a five-hour delay, the group finally arrived in the Big Apple. However, their luggage and instruments remained in Las Vegas, which explains why all showed up on Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends wardrobed in "I Love NY" t-shirts. Bucky and his bandmates finally connected with their lost luggage and instruments two days later in Charlotte, NC, hours before a show at the Charlotte Knights baseball game.

Bucky Covington's self-titled CD debuted at #1 on Nielsen SoundScan's Country Top 75 Chart with not only 2007's biggest unit debut from a new country artist, but also the best first week sales and highest Top 200 debut for any new male country artist since Billy Ray Cyrus in 1992. In recent months Covington's national television appearances have included Live with Regis & Kelly, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America and Fox & Friends.

Edited to add a link to the brand new Fox & Friends blog, where anchor/blogger Alisyn Camerota had some very nice things to say about Bucky, Rocky and the band in her Friday, July 6th post...

  4. Thanks, Buckyflowers and Anon. :) Buckyflowers, it's fun to see multiple tracks on the chart again, isn't it? Love that.

And Anon, thank you for the heads-up on Bucky's news making the Idol front page! I'm following Kathy (hey!) over there now. :)

Would it be sacrilege to say that I'm not digging the hair? He's still as cute as a bug's ear but the hair is almost well . . . Sanjaya like. Sanjaya can pull that off but it looks odd on a dirty white boy. ;)

Does anyone have an inkling on what the next single is going to be?

  7. Anon, I am giggling so hard over here...Sanjaya didn't come to mind at first, I have to admit, but now that you mention it...please, no ponyhawk, Bucky! And hey, we love (witty/snarky/non-malicious) differing opinions around here, no worries. :)

With "A Different World" still slowly but surely climbing and the ongoing Top Ten happy-dance (Top Five dance, next?) the most recent rumors about the next single really arent that recent--"American Friday Night", "I'll Walk", and "Good to Be Us" in roughly that order were the last, but I haven't heard any new rumors in a while. I'm hoping for something upbeat--contrast is good--and I'm loving the way "A Different World" is paving some solid radio airplay ground for the follow up tracks, too. :)

And hi, TravelinMom--yep, that was a fashion statement born of chaos! But it was a fun story. And I agree--any tags, carry on luggage or paperwork that'll help the band and the bags stay in the same time zone is a good thing... :)
