Saturday news: line dance update, a look back in San Bernadino, and more...

Thanks, Pizzi! Bucky Covington, rockin' out with a smile on stage in May at Hershey Park; click here to enjoy a beautiful gallery of concert photos by our friend Pizzi. Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Sometimes it's actually more fun to find an article a little bit after the fact--and that certainly is true of this great Press-Enterprise Bucky Covington profile that ran just before his show at the Brandin' Iron Saloon in San Bernadino this past week. Among the many tidbits, this one stood out: "Could Covington's jukebox- rockin' 'American Friday Night' be the new 'Achy Breaky Heart'? Not quite. There's no Covington- trademarked line dance yet. He really needs that (and a mullet) to become the second coming of Cyrus."

Well, since that was originally posted, that line-dance issue has been taken care of, although the song that's filling floors is the equally jukebox-rockin' "Bible and the Belt." Kathy Heller's dance script has already been archived at the huge Yipee line-dance directory, and Mrs. Heller herself mentions her experiences teaching it to a beginner class in this World Line Dance Newsletter. (Google Groups links are temporary, so check it out now.) "
They enjoyed it, liked the music, and want to keep working on it," she says, noting that some of the turns caused a bit of confusion at first. Needless to say, we're quite eager to learn this dance and hit the floor as soon as possible--but if you're like me, and line-dance scripts might as well be written in 14th-century Martian, you'll join me in this chorus: we need a video. If anyone out there at all knows of a teaching video to Kathy Heller's "Bible and the Belt", please pass along the link!

And we won't even discuss that mullet mention in the Press-Enterprise story, except to just say no. (Why mess with perfection, y'all?)

Moving along (quickly!) to chart news, Bucky's "A Different World" is still holding that bulleted #15 spot on the Mediabase Top 500 and weighted listings this morning. A look of what's happening at the top of the charts, where three mature hits are falling gently down the list, indicates that there could be a helpful shakeup soon--one that could land Bucky squarely in the Top Ten, if we all give him a little help on the phones. Request "A Different World" at your favorite local and streaming country stations; that Top Ten spot is so very doable, and Bucky's beautiful single deserves it. Tonight's nationally-syndicated radio shows would all sound sweeter with a little bit of Bucky on the playlist, too; Lia, The Big Time with Whitney Allen , Danny Wright All Night, the Bo Reynolds Show and After Midnite take requests by email, if you'd like to get a headstart before going out for your wild Saturday night fun.

As for Bucky's fans in the Modesto and Turlock areas, your wild Saturday night is guaranteed! Bucky and the band take the stage there today as part of Kat Country 103's big Listener Appreciation Concert--the excellent bill includes Steve Holy, Taylor Swift, Carolina Rain and headliner (and Bucky well-wisher) Tracy Lawrence. The bash begins at 2 p.m. Pacific, and the station has a photo album online--bookmark that page, and check back soon.

We'll close for now with those handy video voting links; show Bucky some affection at CMT's Pure 12-Pack and at GAC's Top Twenty . (Bucky's hoping for the #1 spot on the latter, and I really think he'll get it--grab a friend or two and vote every day. Sweeps are sweet.)

More later--enjoy your Saturday!

  2. LOL! Yep, the age of the mullet has mercifully passed--hopefully never to come again. (And Bucky's hair looks pretty cool just the way he's wearing it. :)

You and I are agreed about the dance--there has to be a video somewhere! I hope one pops up soon.
