Saturday news: "A Different World" and a world of difference...

Bucky Covington greets the crowd during his show with Sawyer Brown in Eldon, Iowa last week; photo donated by a very kind Sawyer Brown fan who wishes to remain anonymous. (Thanks for the great shot!) Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes, WalMart Music and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Going by the relative quiet this morning, Bucky's performance at last night's Cat Country 96 tenth-anniversary show must have been a wild rave-up--so far there are no recaps anywhere and no photos at the station's site, but that should change fairly soon. Keep checking! In the meantime, Michigan's getting ready for a double dose of Bucky Covington live. The big B93 Birthday Bash at the Ionia Free Fairgrounds is getting underway; the station does stream, and Bucky's due to take the stage at 4:30 or so. Could there be a live remote interview from the fairgrounds? It can't hurt to log on and listen in. (There's also a full Bash section at the B93 site; it's likely that lots of photos from the event will be posted there as the weekend rolls on.) And of course, if you're not Bashing today, there's still time to get to the Mountain Country Music Festival in Farwell tomorrow, where Bucky performs at 6 p.m.

For those of us who won't be in Michigan this weekend, there's the option of enjoying Bucky on the radio--and today's charts are looking up a bit. Bucky's "A Different World" moved up a notch overnight, and is now #13 on the Mediabase weighted chart and #15 on the Top 500. (Thanks, Buckyflowers.) Opportunity's knocking, y'all! Request Bucky at your favorite local and streaming country stations, and be sure to put in a good word for him at CMT's Top 20 Countdown and GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown, as well.

And now, a little bonus nagg...um, encouragement. There's been a bit of confusion surrounding "A Different World" lately, especially among those of us who've been faithfully following its progress from the very start, when we bonded over our Sirius online subscriptions on Christmas night. (Ah, memories!) It's been a sweet, slow scenic country drive from the song's mid-50s chart debut to its current status as a solid Top 15 hit. And one of the sweetest parts of this ride are all the new passengers we've picked up along the way--people who didn't watch a single moment of Idol, people who experienced Bucky for the very first time at CMA Fest or another multi-artist live show and loved what they saw and heard, people who simply turned on the radio last month or last week or yesterday and thought "Who's that? Good song, nice voice". There are people hearing "A Different World" for the very first time today.

As another big country hit from this spring puts it, "this is where the rubber meets the road". Even though "A Different World" may be a borderline oldie to us longtime listeners, it's still got lots of juice for Bucky's newest fans--and he's out there on the road working hard to add more happy people to that "newest fan" category. Lyric Street's also "powering up for Top Ten airplay", as they've announced in the trade papers.

Yes, of course there's going to be an exciting new single, eventually, and that's going to be fun to get behind. (If he and we have our say, we've got twenty years of exciting new Bucky Covington singles ahead!) But Bucky's only going to get one first single, y'all--and Bucky's first single deserves to get as far as it can go.

A Top Ten hit his first time out still sounds like a sweet gift to give to him for all the fun he's given us over the past year and a half--and if an extra call or email to Lia, The Big Time with Whitney Allen, Danny Wright All Night, The Bo Reynolds Show, After Midnite or the local DJ is what it takes to help make that happen, I'm up for it.

Finally, a little happy note; Mediabase slips and slides can be discouraging, but the loss of a bullet or a negative spin count is not the end of the world. Just ask the fans of the man with this morning's #10 song on the Top 500--a song that appeared to be in absolute freefall mode just a few days ago. Keep dialing, keep requesting, and keep the faith, everybody!

More soon...

Amen. Give 'em heck!! I really need to post what you have said on the official site where there is a lot of discussion of moving on. You are so great to point out that just because we have been hearing this song since last year during the GAC Christmas Tour...he has new fans who are just hearing it.

  3. Hi, Anon! Thanks for your very kind words, and sure, feel free to quote. I know we're not all going to agree on this topic, but it's good that the discussion's happening. (You can't say Bucky's fans aren't a passionate bunch!)

Sadly, my computer is almost ready for its own 10 year anniversary bash (it's old!) and I can't log in at the Fox boards without freezing up, but thanks for the heads-up. :)

  4. (Oh, goodness--I need coffee! I just saw that you said the "official site", meaning BuckyCovington.com. That forum only works for my old PC about half the time, but I'll try to stop in. Thanks!)

I just want to remind everyone that country singles often take over 30 weeks to get to number one (Billy Currington is but one recent example)...so ADW is not near to that timeframe yet....so keep requesting since he is so close to top 10 now. :)

I am back to add a link....Tracy Lawrence had to ride along with his single for 41 weeks and losing and regaining bullets along the way...but thankfully his fans did not give up on
"Find Out Who Your Friends Are" which made it to #1 after 41 weeks. Heck...Bucky's song has only been out 20 some weeks. SO KEEP REQUESTIONG...ADW is a top ten song...we just need to believe that and get it there. :D

I really think this whole subject is being misunderstood. No one is giving up on ADW, but Bucky himself said they are choosing the next single several days ago. I hope ADW reaches the top 10 also, but the timing of the second single has to be right to keep the cd selling steadily. Overall cd sales are more important than the first single being in the top 10.

A top 10 single can move albums too. So one more reason to stay focus on ADW!

You really cannot compare Bucky with Tracy Lawrence at this point in his career. Tracy Lawrence has a huge fan base and has had 17 #1 singles in his career.
