Bucky Covington, who gained fame through the American Idol deal, started the night off on Friday at LP Field. An out-of-tune acoustic guitar didn’t help matters, but Covington has a gruff voice that triumphed over that guitar. The acoustic setting helped that voice ring out and be heard to greater extent than on his debut album. His voice is older than he is, it sounds like. Covington was born in 1977. When he finished to the line in "A Different World" that went, "And every Sunday, all the stores were closed," Covington stopped the song and said, "How many of y'all remember that? Good, 'cause I don’t."
The paper was also there for Thursday's Good Morning America segments; you can find a slideshow here and an article by Beverly Keel about the taping, in which Bucky joked about the perils of CMA Fest-level attention. "I'm stepping into it now. I’ve been driving around and I’ve realize I’ve got to tint the window on my truck. I’m kidding!"
(He's kidding...but what do you want to bet those windows do get tinted after all?)
Bucky's tour bus (which no doubt does indeed have tinted windows) rolls out of Nashville and into the Philadelphia area today, where he, Don, Rocky, Shaun and Hans will be part of the big WXTU 23rd Anniversary Show, along with Montgomery Gentry, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, Sarah Buxton, Luke Bryan, Cole Deggs and the Lonesome and Clint Black. Taylor Swift is also listed as being on the bill, but she's battling bronchitis and will be recovering for the next few days. (Get well soon, Taylor!) The all-day show starts at 12 noon ET, and as Kathy points out at Team Covington this morning, there's could be some fun souvenirs coming in the next few days. In the meantime, you'll find a streaming link at the WXTU site--no word on whether they're doing live remotes from the show today, but it might be fun to listen in...

Turning to the charts, "A Different World" is hanging tough at #14 on the Mediabase weighted chart and #15 on the Top 500 listing as of the morning report. (Keep requesting Bucky at your favorite local and streaming country stations, and remember that those local "Top X at X" and nationally syndicated Saturday night country radio shows would love to hear from us, too.) And as always, give Bucky and his video some love at on CMT's Top 2o Countdown, (vote once per week) GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown (once daily) and CMT's Pure 12-Pack ballots.

Last weekend's free concert at Preferred Outlets at Tulare had such a big turnout that even the management team behind performer Bucky Covington was impressed, a local organizer said.
More than 3,000 people showed up to watch the "American Idol" contestant from last year perform, said Sherri Frazer, marketing manager for the outlets.
He'll be headed out West again later this year...hope you'll get a chance to catch him on a stage near you.

Bucky Covington was asked if he'd ever sent his twin brother Rocky (who is in his band) out to sign autographs in his place. He said he couldn't for two reasons: 1) Rocky is left handed and 2) Bucky was afraid of what Rocky might say to embarrass him.
I hadn't ever met Bucky - I was out of town when he came in to cut his episode of Driver's Ed. But I knew he was a big Highway 16 fan, so I introduced myself to him in the hallway a little later. Super nice guy. He hadn't ever played a stadium before.

It looks like Bucky's ADW has gone as high as it will. It might still have it's bullet but it appears to be dropping spins pretty fast. Thats sad
ReplyDeleteOh ya I also want to add before you all jump on me....I hope im wrong I would love to ADW hit the top 10 first. This is how I am seeing this chart. I follow it close and the last couple days have seen declines in spins & aud imp. We could all start to request even more and see if that helps.

Nope, not going to jump on you. :) Basically my feelings are pretty simple--we've had two or three "has the single gone as far as it can?" posts in comments, and the song ended up still climbing--so it's unpredictable. Songs do eventually fall off the charts--that's inevitable--but we'll support it as long as it's out, and we'll support Bucky's next hit single (and there will be many) when it's released, too. So no worries, either way! Bucky's a hit no matter how you slice it.
