Wednesday news: Power Picks, finale whispers and new beginnings...

Especially for you, R.! Thanks for the request and enjoy...By request, Bucky Covington in a promo photo taken late last year. (Thanks for writing!) Bucky Covington's debut CD is in stores now, and his music video is available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can buy Bucky's album at Amazon, Best Buy , iTunes and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT and GAC, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be ordered while supplies last at his official site or via his official fan club.

Bucky's video for "A Different World" will face a head-to-head challenge today on CMT's Power Picks, which begins at 12 noon ET;
click here to go directly to the Power Picks main page. Bucky's matchup will happen during the first half of the show, so at noon, hit the "Vote Now" button, keep that voting window open and get ready to mouse-click away! Results in comments later today...

(Edited to add a note from Marzy in comments: "The numbers are in. Bucky did really good...#56/12,119, 5 week total of 131,069". The Billboard charts will be released tomorrow; look for the Top Country Albums results here on Thursday morning. Thanks, Marzy!)

What a difference a year makes!

Last spring, at about this time, we were taking a moment to reflect and give thanks that a certain cheesy but charming talent show brought us a fantastic new singer to support and enjoy, and we were eagerly looking forward to seeing Idol finalist Bucky Covington on the red carpet, in the Idol finale, and eventually in our CD players and out on the road. This year, as the Idol season draws to a close, we're hoping to see Bucky Covington--the Billboard-chart-topping new country artist with a well-reviewed debut album and a legion of new and enthusiastic fans--hit that same red carpet for a quietly (or not so quietly!) triumphant return. (Edited to add--nothing's confirmed, y'all! The finale whispers are still rumors at this stage--fingers crossed that the rumors are true.) Have I mentioned yet that it's good to be us? Yes, it is...

Will he be there? Well, Kathy's excellent sleuthing yesterday indicated that none of Season Five's singers had anything listed on their schedules for tonight--except Bucky's talented buddy Elliott Yamin, whose MySpace gives his destination for the evening as Kodak Theater AI Wrap Party. (All righty then!) It's safe to assume that the wire-photo agencies and the entertainment shows will be covering the American Idol finale from start to finish; we'll update here today with any details and/or news we discover.

In the meantime, current rising country star (and touring sensation) Bucky Covington's single, "A Different World", holds steady at #16 with a bullet on the Mediabase weighted and Top 500 charts the morning. As always, request "A Different World" at your favorite local and streaming country stations--one look at those exceedingly close rankings illustrates exactly why it's vital! And while you're hangin' out here, take a moment and give Bucky some love on the CMT Pure 12-Pack and GAC Top Twenty video countdown ballots, too...

Finally, we're still waiting for a little more information on Bucky's Friday night show at Renegades in West Palm Beach; if you're in the WIRK broadcast area, you'll definitely want to keep your radio tuned to 107.9 for the latest word! Here's hoping you'll get to enjoy the pleasures of Bucky, Rocky and company in concert very, very soon...

More later!

  4. Hi Anon! Billboard charts are released on Thursdays; Soundscan numbers are subscription only, if I'm not mistaken (feel free to correct me, y'all--I am no chart expert) and the subscriptions are pretty expensive. But there's a good chance the numbers will turn up at the Fox boards later today, and possibly at places like MJ's Big Blog and Rickey.org, too. (The sites are both liked in the sidebar out front.) If I find the numbers anywhere today, I will bring them back here, as well. Hope there's good news on the horizon! :)

    I do not know if he is #10 on Country albums. I think its between Bucky and Sugarland for the 10 spot

  7. Thank you so much, Marzy! That does sound good--I hope Bucky will have Top 10 bragging rights again this week. :) Appreciate the news!

    (Power Picks results--"A Different World" fought the brave fight against "Ladies Love Country Boys", but wound up with 44% of the vote. Who do we petition at CMT to get that much better 3:00 p.m. airtime back?)
