Saturday news: more K100 photos, "Driver's Ed" update, a Ford for sale and more...

Bucky Covington in a promo photo from a recent photoshoot; visit his MySpace to see more. Bucky's new music video is now available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can pre-order Bucky's debut CD at Amazon, Best Buy and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT, or enjoy samples of songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace. An autographed copy of Bucky Covington can be pre-ordered at his official site or via his official fan club.

Photos of Bucky's performance at Shawn's Irish Tavern in Toledo have been added to the gallery at K100's site today--there are several shots of the crowd, so if you were there, you might see your own smiling face! And don't miss that incredibly fun final photo--looks like Bucky had some star-powered support in Toledo, doesn't it? (Thanks to Becky for the update.)

And if you're in the mood for more Toledo memories, there's a delightful recap posted at the AmericanIdol.com board; Laurianne was on hand to greet Bucky, Rocky and the band as they charmed the K100 crowd--and apparently what was slated to be a mini-concert turned into a full-blown, 15-song set that had the whole house rockin'. Kudos to Laurianne for sharing her fantastic night of music! (To find out when you'll have the pleasure of enjoying Bucky and company live, check out the newly expanded tour schedule at Bucky's official site.)

Enjoying Bucky on the radio is becoming a little easier to do these days, too--the Mediabase Top 500 and weighted charts looked great at post time, and Bucky's latest leap in the rankings has perked up a few ears out there. (Edited to add: Bucky's made another jump today--as of this update, his single is #27 on the Top 5oo.) A kind friend let us know that she heard "A Different World" on Lia's extremely popular syndicated program Friday night; no doubt, that's the first of many good reports on the syndicated-show front this weekend. Keep your radio on--and of course, request Bucky. The iron's hotter than hot right now, so go on and call...

On the satellite radio scene, Bucky's single is currently #25 on the Sirius New Country Hot 30--if you're a subscriber there, be sure to give Bucky a boost with a request! And Bucky's XM Highway 16 "Driver's Ed" live set has been rescheduled; it was originally set for this week, but it now looks like it'll happen sometime in April. Keep checking the Highway 16 site for the new date...

We'll pause here to post those all-important voting links: while you're enjoying that morning coffee, put in a good word for "A Different World" on the CMT Pure Country Pure 12-Pack video countdown and on GAC's Top Twenty Country Countdown.

And last but definitely not least, here's one country music collectible that's hard to top--Bucky's 1999 Ford Expedition is up for auction at eBay! From the description: "Bucky put front hood, grill, and bumper on this vehicle personally and painted it to match the vehicle." We'll post the standard--and important--disclaimer right here: serious bids and inquiries only, y'all. Having said that, if you're interested in purchasing the Expedition, the bidding ends on the evening of Monday, April 2nd. Good luck, and safe driving!

More soon...

  3. Hi, Anon and Anon! :)

Anon 8:32, thanks for the correction on the Amazon link--I'll fix that in a bit. And thanks also for the great chart news!

Anon 8:30, I appreciate the heads-up on the Amazon review--Mr. Kienzle is a very respected writer, so the very fact that he was the one to review it for Amazon is a good sign. Better still, he had such positive things to say about Bucky's voice! However, the tracks he singles out as "predictable"--"I'll Walk", "The Bible and the Belt" and "Back When We Were Gods"--are ones I haven't heard in their studio versions, so I couldn't really give an informed, specific rebuttal or agreement.

The studio tracks I have heard in their entirety ("A Different World", "Hometown", "I'm Good", "American Friday Night" and "It's Good to Be Us"), I enjoyed a lot, and I suspect I might simply like Mark Miller's production style a little bit better than Mr. Kienzle does.

As for the effects of reviews in general on Bucky's potential sales, the actual music that gets played on the radio and that people hear Bucky perform on TV and in live shows is going to be what drives the CD sales--reviews are helpful, but in the long run, it's the music that closes the deal for the vast majority of listeners and buyers. (A lot of my favorite CDs weren't quite "critic's choice" when they first came out!)

Sorry to be so long winded, and thanks again! :)

  4. I went to read the review. He does seem to think Bucky is very talented. Having not heard those songs leaves us at a disadvantage. Yes country tunes can sometimes tend to get a bit predictable theme wise, country fans love them. "I'll walk" being the tearjerker everyone tends to have now.I haven't heard it either but Bucky mentioned it being about a girl who hit by a car and paralyzed and then telling her father she will walk down the aisle to get married or something A lot of songs on the country charts now have the back in the day nostalgia thing going on but fans seem to like them and I know I am one of those that loves a song that makes me think of something in the past. SO hopefully it will all work out well in sales.

  5. Kathy, that's a good point--it's funny, but when it comes to certain genres, "predictable" is almost the flip side of "traditional." (If you went to a blues show and didn't hear at least one song about that cruel, evil woman who went and done the singer wrong, you might feel robbed! :)

And like you said, we're at a bit of a disadvantage, having not yet heard the whole CD. But what little we have heard is enough to make us look forward to a very good year for Bucky, and for us...

I think Bucky fans should develop a thick skin. Reviewers are generally not kind to Idol alumni and everyone from Kelly to Chris to Taylor to Carrie has gotten more than their far share of outright slams to withering reviews. It comes with the territory.

Ultimately it's the record buying public that will have the last word. I think the Amazon review is good in that praises Bucky's unique vocal talents and the put-downs are more directed toward song choice and production. I personally like the sound of what I've heard so far. I'll probably cringe a little bit when I hear "I'll Walk" because I just don't like songs that go for the easy tear jerking of cancer and wheelchairs, but who knows, with Bucky singing it may yet yank a tear or two out of this cynical New Yorker.

At no time did I state I didn't have thick skin. This whole world of reviews and promoting, mediabase rank and such is all new to me. I didn't think the review was all that bad. I could be alot worse. I was just asking what everyone else thought about it. I myself have no complaints when it comes to Bucky's music.

Sorry anon. My comment was a general one about reviews for idol CDs and not directed at you personally.

Hey...the amazon reviewer seems to love Bucky's vocal talents and also his first single and what we think will be Bucky's second single....so that it pretty darn good. So what if some of the other songs he is not so keen on...heck...one he blasts for be too sentimental...does he not listen to some of the sappy ones that end up top 5? hahaha All seems to be going along just dandy as far as I can tell1 :)

I was bawling in the car and had to compose myself before going in Walmart lol Yeah but critics can say what they want I could give a rats flying you know what lol I say bring on the tradition!
