FOX 16 in Little Rock has just posted a "one on one" with Bucky--a great article with quotes from Bucky and some of the fans who were on hand for yesterday's KSSN lunchtime concert. (The KILT stream is playing as we speak--the DJ just announced that Bucky will be on the air "in a couple of minutes". I'll attempt a quick play-by-play; please reload the page for the latest. Thanks!)
Bucky's there! "Doin' lovely--I didn't know I was doing this for free!" "Y'all got some great weather--it's been cold in Nashville." Got pounded with snow in Nashville.
Welcome to Houston--came through on Idol tour--loves Texas. "It is huge!"
Armadillo Place show--will play, then sign autographs, then watch Idol. Not many Idols from country, DJ notes, but they are successful. "Main thing I love about country music is the fans", Bucky replies--they like you once, they can like you forever.
AI stigma? Sawyer Brown were hot in 80s but had to deal with Star Search intros on air. "If it does hang with you, it's not a bad thing--as long as they know you." says Bucky. "Not much of a downside." Talks about reality shows as opposed to talent shows.
Bucky and DJ talk about the four songs from the album out 4/17. Talks about three things he likes in songs--beat/danceable/relatable. DJ plays "A Different World."
After song, a reminder about the viewing party--doors open about 30 minutes, DJ invites listeners to come early for happy hour; Bucky says "see you later!". Bucky mentions he hasn't been able to catch much of the Idol show from the bus. DJ jokes that "his satellite went out" so he hasn't seen much either, and Bucky laughs. "Wink wink, nod nod". DJ mentions Sundance Head, whose father, famed singer Roy Head, is from Texas.
About Idol rounds--"you don't see [the judges] until the third round--if you got cut on the first round, don't give up, try another city." Hollywood round is tough--"boot camp", contestants were sleep deprived and taken out on a sightseeing trip. "I want to sleep!" Worst thing said about him: "Oh goodness. Whatever Simon said!" Simple Man--didn't see what judges meant until he saw the tape. Advice--record yourself.
DJ wraps up talking about "Buckys" he knows--quite a few in the area. Bucky says he didn't realize there were so many. "I reckon the ones that have that name end up doing something...thank you, Mama!"
(Be sure to check out the KILT Idol viewing party info if you're lucky enough to be in the Houston area tonight! More later..)
