Flashback Sunday: the road to April 17th

Bucky Covington sings out in this close-up still shot from his new music video, now available for online viewing at CMT.com and Yahoo Music. You can pre-order Bucky's debut CD at Amazon, Best Buy and Target, hear the full version of his single "A Different World" at CMT, or enjoy samples of four songs from the CD at Bucky's official MySpace.

(Edited to add a link to some great new additions to the Bucky thread at Rawkhands that you really won't want to miss...)

It's a quiet pre-CRS Sunday--a great time to request and to reflect. The requesting part is easy--there's a whole "Radio Info" section in our sidebar, with links to help you find your favorite local or streaming country stations. Call or email your request and you could be listening to "A Different World" before you know it! (As always, remember the golden rule of requesting--only ask for the song at stations you actually can and do listen to. Local is best--and Bucky's single is doing so well now that there are plenty of local people with you asking for it too!)

Sunday's also an excellent day to look back and smile. Some of us are new here, others have been dreaming of Bucky's debut album since the very first time we heard him sing--but all of us have a big treat coming on April 17th, when Bucky's self-titled CD hits the shelves (and moments later, our CD players.) How did we get from there to here? Here's some fun as-it-happened media background on Bucky Covington's first CD...

One of the earliest video pieces on the upcoming album ran in November, when Nashville's ABC affiliate WKRN ran this story filmed in the recording studio where Bucky, Mark Miller and company were working on those first four tracks we can hear now at Bucky's MySpace.

Greensboro/High Point's WGHP Fox 8 captured Bucky in the studio for an excellent segment thataired a few days later; this must-see interview was also the subject of an insightful (and funny) article by Stewart Pittman of Lensfinder Blues fame. He and Shannon Smith have an easygoing, mutually-appreciative rapport with Bucky that makes this one a true delight.

December brought us the news of Bucky's addition to the GAC tour, but even in the midst of that often-snowbound adventure, there was news about his upcoming CD. The Canton Repository ran this short article on Bucky before his concert there; he described the CD as "a country record, definitely, anything from slow ballads to upbeat, humorous songs, and I’ve got some songs that are almost rock," adding that at the end of the week, he hoped to be signed to a label...

The wee hours of New Year's Day brought the announcement we'd all been hoping for--Bucky was officially signed to a major label! The news came first via this short piece in the Nashville Business Journal, then later in a press release that ran, among other places, at USAToday.com's "Idol Chatter" blog (scroll down.)

Here's waving at you! Bucky Covington in a screencap fom his brand new music video--click the image to see the whole video at CMT.com.Since then, of course, it's been a promo extravanganza. Bucky's done numerous radio chats in support of the single and the upcoming album. This post features a link to interviews currently available for download; after CRS, of, course the promo tour resumes and more radio is on the horizon. Those who are new to the hilarity of a Bucky Covington radio interview are in for a really good time...

To wrap things up--talking about music is fun, reading about music is great, but there's nothing like hearing the music to get you in the mood for Bucky's CD release. If you'd like to hear and see live versions of several songs from Bucky's upcoming album, KILT has a wonderful video vault with footage taken during his promo tour performance at the Armadillo Palace. A taste of the recorded tracks is available, too--this four song preview is all the proof you need that we're gonna have something fun blaring from the speakers as we hit the road all spring and summer long...

Enjoy! News post next--stay tuned...

Thanks for all the links! I don't see Bucky's radio interviews at WQDR Raleigh or WWQM Madison on your radio interview list. Those are available on the station websites. Just want to make sure you know about those.

WQDR has an interview under "audio vault" but they still have not played his song. I have been requesting once a day for the past month.

  5. That's frustrating! Maybe they're one of those stations that sticks to the Top 30? If so, they might have to play him soon, from the looks of things. Fingers crossed!
