Quick update, 12/17

Bucky Covington in Murray KY, photo by Dixiegirl7Bucky Covington on stage in Murray, Kentucky; photo by the very kind Dixiegirl7.

Just a bit of news to get the day going:

There's a lot of sweet reminiscing happening among those who've been to the GAC Christmas show--if you'd like to enjoy the experience live, grab a ticket for tonight's Charleston show or for tomorrow's Chattanooga stop and join the fun. This beautiful recap by Valerie will give you a good taste of what's in store; she and her son attended the Florence show, where Bucky sang "Different World" to his grandparents and created a memory that all who were there will treasure forever. Thanks for sharing your lovely evening, Valerie!

There are lots of recaps waiting for you at the Fox boards, as well--on this page alone you'll find two detailed and heartfelt descriptions from the Florence show, and one funny, sweet review from last night's Lancaster concert. Thanks, y'all! No doubt there'll be more on the way as the day goes on; be sure to revisit that thread for updates...

Rocky Covington's
busy this winter--he and Swamp Cat will be performing at Pontiac Pointe in Albemarle, NC on the 22nd of December (reservations required; check Rocky's site for details) and Rocky's January 13th show at the Front Street Music Hall in Wilmington is billed on the venue's site as a "farewell party for Rocky & Bucky Covington." Here's the word straight from the hall's General Manager (thanks, dbrosch):

"The show is open to all ages. [Please note that those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult--W.] We do not have a definite on Bucky being here but Rocky says that he probably will be. All depends on his touring schedule and unless it changes he will have the time off. I think tickets will be available on-line at e-tix.com"

Sounds like a fun way to wish Rocky (and possibly Bucky) all the best as they settle into Nashville for good. Check Rocky's official site and this thread at the Fox boards for updates, and have a fantastic time!

More soon...

I hope you can tell from my recap on the AI boards that I had a fantastic time in Florence. I'm so glad that I gave way to a flight of fancy (with a little bit of encouragement from you) and made the trip down south. Seeing him in this setting and in the company of such great talents was so much more rewarding than the giant cheesefest. I keep coming back to the word "joyful" because it was so much in evidence at this concert. He was enjoying everyone else' performances as if he was hearing these songs for the very first time.
He was totally "there in the moment"
and there is nothing studied or artificial in his own performances whether he is scooting across the stage on one foot or shimmying back to back with fiddle player. Some people might find the dancing a little awkward and goofy but to my mind it is the purest expression of happiness and being carried away by the music.

On a non musical note, I drove in to Florence around 6PM and was a little confused about directions and I see this big Waffle House sign. I remembered Bucky talking about how the Waffle House would have been nice on that "Brokedown Bus" video so I decided to check it out. I had a delicious pecan waffle and the very, very friendly folks gave me directions. I was back the next day for grits and eggs!

  2. Carol, I am so glad you went, too--it sure sounds like you had a wonderful time, and your recaps give such a great taste of what it must have been like that night.

And "joyful" is definitely the word. Bucky is one of the most radiantly happy performers ever. (It sure is contagious...I am still sporting a grin here.)

This tour was such an unexpected gift in so many ways. The talent and mutual respect among the performers on that stage is so gratifying.

I must warn you about the addictive nature of the Waffle House. Yes, they're innocent-looking little buildings staffed with friendly folk...but after a couple of tastes of that home-style cooking, you're going to find yourself jonesing for another trip across the M-D line for the unbeatable combination of Bucky Covington ear-delights and Waffle House taste-bud thrills. This might be the first of many more Southern culinary/musical adventures down the road...

    (P.S.: Can I hitch a ride? ;)

I am going to the Jan 13th show with or without Bucky being there. Once I found out the whole family could go, I was all there :) Tori's birthday is Jan 15th so didn't want to go without her ;)

She got to meet Bucky now she will be able to meet our other idol Rocky :)

  5. Debbie, I bet Tori's got you nominated for Cool Mom of the Year. :) That sounds like it'll be a fun show, and how exciting that she gets to meet both of the Covington brothers in the space of a month or so? Nice birthday gift! Be sure to take lots of photos...

It does sound like Bucky might be pretty busy right about then--it would be great if he could be there, though.

Thank you, Deb (and thanks to Hildi and Happy, too) for the update!

Winnie, thanks for the mention and the link to my recap!

beesims, is that really you? I had a great time standing in line with you for autographs. If you were using mapquest, I bet you did get a little confused when you got into Florence, they had the direction you were supposed to turn backwards! I ended up at the mall across hwy 20.
