There's a bit of very good news on the horizon, from the sound of things. Here's a nice long conversation with Bucky from this morning's Canton Repository. A taste:
So you’ve been working on an album. Tell me about that.
It’s going to be a country record, definitely, anything from slow ballads to upbeat, humorous songs, and I’ve got some songs that are almost rock. By the end of the week, I’m hoping to be signed to a label. I’m very happy with the way things are going. I don’t want overnight success, I want longevity.
By the end of the week, y'all. The plot thickens deliciously. (Be sure to check the Repository sidebar for links to interviews with Julie Roberts and Scott Reeves of Blue County, too.)
A year ago, Bucky Covington was still painting cars at his dad's auto-body shop in North Carolina.
"That's steady work," he said. "People keep wrecking them and we keep fixing them."
Then came "American Idol" and a touch of fame. One finalist, Kellie Pickler, already has a record deal and a radio song; Covington says he's wrapping up his deal.
Once he does, he hopes to have his twin, Rocky, on the road as his drummer. Their step-father would have been delighted, he said.
"He raised us from when we were 3 to 18," Covington said. "He was a musician, too, when he was younger. He always said he was going to see us be stars."
That has taken a while. Covington is 29 and has been married for seven years.
This year, he's gone from the car shop to the "Idol" tour and now the country Christmas tour. "It is just awesome," he said.
Stay tuned--the next few days could be very interesting, indeed.
(Edited to add a photo bonus--three great shots of Steve Azar, Scott and Aaron of Blue County and Bucky Covington have just been added to Honeygirl's beautiful Flickr photoset. Enjoy!)
Well it's a done deed (at least the first part). I bought the ticket to the concert (my hesitation moved me from row E back to row K). If I chicken out on the road trip, I'm only out $36. Oh god, I am so crazy for considering this but the more I read about the show, the more I think I just have to see it live. Oh Winnie, will the madness never stop!
ReplyDeletePerhaps there's a fine line between "madness" and "having a blast"...and you are going to have a blast at this show! So glad you're at least holding that ticket--now we just have to get you on that plane and into the sunny South...
ReplyDelete(Seriously, Carol, I think you're going to be glad you did--not only is it nice to get away for a weekend, but Bucky's so much fun live, and the group that'll be there will make it a real party. I think you're going to come back to NYC with a huge smile on your face. :)
What is that about his stepfather? So he lived with his mom and stepfather but then worked in the bodyshop with his bio father? Did his stepfather pass away - because of the way he said "would have been proud."? Just wondering.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading somewhere about a stepfather that passed away when he was 18 or 19.
ReplyDeleteAnd beesims... you will NOT regret going to the concert. Just plan to stay awhile afterward!
